Maybe this story does have a happy ending. Administration.

What's with the fixation on Liverpool transfers? They haven't spent over 100 million pounds on transfers since 2019-2020 according to actual reporters in ESPN, The Athletic.

Proper superstar signing if this one materialises.

Haven't been this excited by a concrete link since Olise 2023 & 2024 (RIP) or Moises Caicedo 2023.

He was pretty poor for his standards in the Bundesliga last season tbh.

16 GA in 25 starts in a "poor" season says enough about his quality.

23-24 when Leverkusen won the league Simons had

More big chances created
More assists
More dribbles per 90
More chances created per 90

than Wirtz

Wirtz vs Simons (23/24 + 24/25)

Big Chances Created:
Wirtz - 29
Simons - 26

Non-penalty goals:
Wirtz - 18
Simons - 17

Duels won:
Wirtz - 304 (43%)
Simons - 339 (50%) [more intense out of possession]

and this is ignoring Leipzig have had trash infrastructure and coaching under Lőw and Rose compared to Alonso.

Image

The only man appearing twice (pass threat and dribbling threat), apart from Cherki, is Xavi Simons.

Would pretty much round out our attacking profiles.

You have a volume creator in Palmer
Magician winger in Estevao
1v1 threat in Gittens
Runner/outlet in Pedro Neto
Central carrier in Xavi Simons

love the attacking balance. Deal is far from a certainty though so I don't want to set myself up AGAIN.

Xavi Simons is potential superstar talent, my Athletic podcast, Bundesliga experts was saying he has gone down on transfer list because he was too injury prone last season, recent years.

Remind me again, stormi, who won the last two player of the season awards in Bundesliga?

Point being if you honestly think Simons is as good as Wirtz, you aren’t that knowledgeable about football.

If you asked any club to choose between the two players, every single one, including your beloved Chelsea, would say Wirtz.

Was Kane (stolen from Olise), Flo Squirts' win two years ago though is giving HEAVY

vibes.

Hate to tell good people bad news.

Not only is Simons better, but he isn't a ticking time bomb with multiple ACLs under his belt.

Spending £150 million on this player reeks of desperation to make a marquee signing. Trust me, I've been there before. Playing battleship with big money transfer targets and erratic and inconsistent spending to win the window in August in the eyes of online fans. Nearly 300 million spent on two okay-to-decent players this summer is the sign of the once great Michael Edwards being past it. Obviously though this was always going to happen. He dominated in an age where his data-led approach was pioneering. Now clubs like Brighton, Sunderland, Leeds and Bournemouth have access to all, if not superior methods -> while the B6 clubs have approached transfers in a similar way, but in locations with superior financial muscle / pull.

Chelsea have landed two superior similar zone operating attackers in Simons (cross fingers) and Palmer for a fraction of the cost. You should be furious. Heads need to roll at 'La AXA'. You're witnessing a reverse Salah / Mane in real time that will tip the scales against your balance for the foreseeable future.

Torch has been passed son. Just accept it now so it hurts less come seasons end.

Listen, stormi, it’s okay. I have been where you currently are. You’re tired of how others view your club. In your case, it’s mainly related to the amount spent under both Roman and now the new ownership.

With that said, the one thing you lack is respect. Despite Liverpool not winning a PL title for a lengthy period, I was still cordial to discuss other clubs and their players.

You repeatedly put Chelsea on a pedestal while disparaging others. Not sure you understand what this forum is even for. Every single one of your posts screams of jealously — a little child begging for attention.

Thankfully Kamara is signing a new contract with us, he’s the player I was mostly scared about losing. One of the best players in our squad and has an amazing partnership with Tielemans and also Onana.

Doesn’t seem like Martinez has the interest in him that he thought he would. We don’t really want to sell Watkins unless our price is met and we won’t be entertaining offers for Rogers unless something ridiculous happens.

I’m more than fine with consolidating and not spending a lot of money this summer. We seem to be snapping up some good young players as well, Jaydee Canvot hopefully signs too for some more defensive depth. I’m hoping for a winger - possibly Garnacho or El-Khannouss.

Not hating here for a second,

Does anyone else see a rampant lack of balance?

Image

2 9s
2 RW
2 10s
1 8
1 LB
2 CBs
1 GK

Most attackers itl will be licking their lips looking at this team. Will get ran into the ground on counters, team has very little mettle or off the ball resilience.

It seems like PL clubs poaching from other PL clubs has become more frequent in recent years.

Maybe 10-15 years ago, PL clubs were buying players from other top Europe leagues and also signing the most promising young players from South America and Africa.

Intra-league signings seemed more common in Serie A, where the wealth disparity between clubs meant Juventus and Milan would just buy the top performers from the previous season, not only to strengthen themselves but weaken their league rivals.

Agree on Kamara, we absolutely HAD to re-sign him. He's incredibly important to how we play AND one of the best and most underrated DM's in the world.

Looks like we could be extending Digne as well. I'm all for this if they negotiate a reduced salary. Maatsen is likely the starter this season, but Digne will get more than enough games and the depth of having bot h of these at LB, is what we need to aspire too for most positions.

Looks like we have concentrated on bringing young players in to increase their sale value in years to come. That's fine.

I think Onana and Malen will be have big leaps this coming season, so they will be like new players. We need to address back up striker and hopefully we cna replace Bailey (would love Garnacho IF his attitude is right and Emery wants him). Ramsey needs to have a healthy season and get back on track to where he was 18-24 months ago.

It's hilarious the money being spent by the "big clubs"......but at least PSR has made it fairer

Looking at all the transfer activity, we could be in for a nice season.
I wonder what the media will say about the clubs who don't win the title.

Arsenal contending for the fourth season in a row.
Liverpool going on a spending spree after winning the title.
Chelsea spending about three billion in the last three years, without any decent result in the prem.
Man CIty spending like crazy since january.

For Arsenal, you would imagine it would be about whether Arteta is the right manager to get them over the line.

For Liverpool, they will likely say too many changes were made in the offseason (5 new starters).

For Chelsea, I’m thinking they will bring up inexperience.

For Manchester City, the media will point to Pep and his time coming to a close.

Its what Fergie did back in the day and some other clubs started to do this as well. Get proven players over hopefuls. Both have their negatives and positives.
