Re: Where Jonathan Kuminga ends ?
I think he stays because the GSW are not going to want to pay the luxury tax bill on whomever comes back in a matching S+T keeping him for 8m is the best option.

You kinda highlighted my confusion. You're saying he thinks he's alpha and you're not sure about him in a bigger role. But also you want him to develop in that role? You left me confused.
I'll say I strongly don't think there's any value in this guy ever being given his own team to score on. If you want him to be a scorer off the bench in a 6 man role ok. But guys mean so much with "alpha". I'm always going to ask anymore because much like "role player" it can mean anything.

Re: Where Jonathan Kuminga ends ?
Seems the Kings are most into him but not really sure why when it's a weird fit with Sabonis \ Derozen \ Murray front court.
The Warriors can only take back half his salary and I don't think he'll get as much as he wants so maybe signs something for $20M-$25M a year for a 3 year deal?
This means the Warriors can take back approx $10M - $12M in salaries. Who wants Kuminga for that salary, and who would the Warriors want coming back?
Just a few names that might work fit \ salary wise
Isaiah Stewart DET (25-26 $15M)
Cole Anthony MEM (25-26 $13.1M)
Josh Green CHA (25-26 $13.6M)
Richaun Holmes WAS (25-26 $13.2M)
Brandon Clarke MEM (25-26 $12.5M)
Coby White CHI (25-26 $12.8M)
Derrick Jones LAC (25-26 $10M)
Pretty bleak list really, and not sure which of these teams would want to pay Kuminga

Re: Where Jonathan Kuminga ends ?
Whats kinda crazy to realize is that GSW prolly doesnt want him back on the QO. If his markets tanks further that he's forced to take the QO, then he's untradeable by GSW for the season, and there's a scenario where him pouting for more touches/role on the team will make him more of a negative than positive and only way to get rid of him is via buyout/cut. GSW's likely best move is to re-sign him on a 1+1 player option deal in order to be able to trade him elsewhere for any sort of assets. GSW has Kuminga's RFA rights so no team is really all that eager to negotiate a steal of a deal with him, when GSW can just match. Kuminga really fumbled that bag when he turned down that his extension offer.

A 1+1 player option deal makes him pretty much impossible to trade. It gives him veto rights on any trade and, if he does agree, reverts his Bird rights back to the non-Bird exception (120% limit on a new contract) for the receiving team.

So I just want to restate that I do not think he's some alpha soon to be primary scoring option, I've seen enough, im with you on that. But GS drafted him quite high with, im sure, high hopes for him. He himself has said who he thinks he is and what he wants to become as a player. When you draft someone 7th its likely you expect them to become something more than just a role player. So the alpha talk was more in line with that path of development that he/they were on at one point. If you wanna be a star player you definitely need to have ot develop an alpha mentality

Sign and Trades with both Brogdon and Kuminga as the center pieces? Washington could use one of their vets (Richaun Holmes) and a re-signed Brogdon for Kuminga would work. Washington still has a ton of cap space cleared up and can use this season to see how he fits within their young squad.
*Edit. Front load Kuminga's contract a la Jonathan Isaac's deal so it brings value later on if he doesn't pan out. The Wizards then use a vet like McCollum to try and bring a young center into the fold to create a solid 3-man rotation to play next to either of Alex Sarr and Kuminga.

The biggest part of "alpha mentality" is not being thrown off by speedbumps and challenges. It's a no excuse mindset.
Instead of putting his head down and improving his skillset, he's in his feelings about not being handed a role.
The organization can't want it more than the player wants it for himself.

Man more word salad. Role player and Alpha just don't mean anything as they get used so many weird and different ways.
So if you mean role player as not the best player on the team..well it's rare a 7th pick ever gets to that. Kuminga was supposed to be a defensive guy who could score in spurts. You'd hope he'd turn into perhaps a secondary scorer. And hey if he becomes a go to...cool. But he was seen as a solid rotation starter who could be a top 50 type player. Go look at the history of the 7th pick. Sure you got Curry, Mullin and KJ. After that you're looking at Loul Deng, Odom, Randle, Crawford, Nene, Barnes, Gordon, Hinrich, Horry....you get the point. And I'm listing these guys in order of career vorp to some degree. It's not a list of first options or "stars".
I still don't understand alpha here. But the problem with this guy as I see it. He thinks he can be a go to scorer and he can't. What they need is to develop him into a better team/system player. If he tries to be a first option, he isn't going to develop at all. Only about 20-30 guys at any even time are good enough for that kind of role in the league. And even then most of those guys are better off being a team player/second option while letting a weaker player be the first option as their game lends itself to play off that.
I mean this is a guy who had a 27% usage rate last year. The warriors have let him basically shoot at will. He isn't getting better.
And if I'm reading the "alpha" thing right. Don't most players come in with that? And teams end up spending all their time fixing them to get them to think like basketball players instead? To make the league most guys have the be the best player on the court in middle school, high school, college, and then they finally get to the NBA and...nope sorry. You're not that guy anymore. It's still ultimately a hyper masculine group of "alpha males" as a whole. They get better mostly by accepting their lessor roles.

Nothing that we didn't already know. Kuminga hates Kerr and has no intentions of resigning, and the Warriors continue to demand top dollar for him when there is virtually no market for him.

What are these RFA's waiting for? none of them have any leverage. **** or get off the pot!
Guys like him and giddey need to just swallow some pride, take a little less than what they desire, just insist on an opt-out after 3 years so they can try UFA sooner

Take what? No one has tendered any offer sheets and for an S&T both teams have to agree on something. What do you want them to do?

I mean, reach a deal with their current teams! Their best bet at this point is to reach middle ground on a salary, and sign for less years or atleast have an opt-out after 3. They still get a decent bag now, and get to try again for a bigger bag in a few years.

The Warriors need to figure this out.
It seems to be a lost cause with this young man.
What is his realistic value in a S&T now and contract numbers?
