Whys it suck? A team gets the keep their star player. Any other team does this and congratulations rain down. Lakers do it and it sucks?

Other teams don't get star players at 50% price.

Yeah, that's a very underrated aspect of this entire thing. People focus a lot on the trade itself but the big win for LAL is also his contract. With the Mavs his pay would be 70M+ and now it's significantly less, around 12-15M less. In theory, that's a solid money for an extra solid role player on the roster.

Actually, the Mavs made a random trade for a 31yo top-10 player.

The Lakers simply obliged and made the no-brainer move to accept said offer.

It’s not even just the volume of titles but just the fact that every time the Lakers are facing a rebuild like most teams endure, they magically get a superstar somehow on some bull.

Why weren't you whining when the Clippers signed all the stars this year? And don't pretend that you're not a Clipper fan, we know better.

Let's not get carried away, the Clippers did not sign "all the stars " lol

Beal, yes, as he is a lower evel star quality player, okay, but that's just one.

Let's all maybe just hope the Clippers stay healthy so they can field their actual team and see how good they can be.

its one of the best contracts in the league, he'll basically be making what Jalen Williams will be making

Kawhi has played like a star whenever he's actually been on the court, so "has-been" doesn't seem appropriate to me. Harden certainly can't score like he used to, but he's as good a playmaker as he ever was. Beal is who he is, he's a guy who's numbers are better than his actual value, but he might be useful. Chris Paul is definitely long past his prime, but should still be helpful.

The guy said "signed all stars this year"

Beal, CP3, and Brook are has-beens imo. They're certainly not all-stars in 2025 thats for sure.

I really wanted to see what a FA scrum for a player of his caliber would look like.

Clippers signing a bunch of guys who had a prime 5 years ago isn't the same. Lakers get these superstars at their peak in the dumbest ways.

It’s kinda hard to build a team without a bunch of good young rookie contract talent on a squad. For the lakers to have maximum cap space in 2026/27 basically means everyone but Luka is renounced. Cuz paying market rate on solid playoff rotation players even after a successful dream shot Joker or Giannis 35% max signing, basically means it’s Luka + superstar #2 + good 2way role player + 2 solid role players and then the rest of the squad are a bunch of jabronies. It’ll be as top heavy as can be and utterly reliant on ring chasers and desperate vets to pad out the roster. I mean if the lakers pull off getting a ln age appropriate 2nd superstar, great, but I don’t trust pelinka to build out a good squad as he’s shown little talent in doing all the little moves to build around the edges.

It's the decades of investments that are starting to pay off. Pelinka pulled this off because he had a friendship with Nico back then. Lebron signed because he saw how they treated Kobe during his twilight years. Today's young stars are watching how they treat aging superstars like Lebron and now they want to be a Laker too. See, it's the constant investment over and over that pays off in the long run. Don't be surprised if they sign Jokic, Giannis, or SGA someday. Maybe you can change your name to LALSinceGiannis and we'll welcome you.

A Luka extension will probably age about as well as he does.

Dude will be 33 years old by then. How effective is a 33 year old Giannis going to be unless he somehow gains the ability to shoot 3s like late career Lebron?

His defense especially will decline.

Of course it was rigged. Look at what happened in the draft lottery after.

Silver gave the *wink* for Dallas to get Cooper Flagg. Now the trade looks very fair.

Because the Lakers are often the reason the other teams don't get to keep their star players.
