What's your proposed change?
I think it's a reasonable tradeoff with teams being pretty protective of pitchers to have them only pitch an inning or so. And the guys that go there, they want to pitch them for the fans.
So are you saying they should allow players to return to the game and play extra innings so that they have pitchers? Short of forcing them to play an actual game as if it's a playoff game, which most players/teams would decline, I don't know how you play things out better than that.
Both teams were out of pitchers.
You allow any player that was subbed out to go back in. Both teams had at least 4 pitchers that threw 10 pitches or less. NL had 3 guys that had thrown 6 or fewer.
There's no way they're gonna have those guys warm up, pitch, cool down, and then get loose to pitch again for an exhibition game.
Right...there's almost no way to do things with the current constraints.
Either you're going to only throw 3-4 pitchers like a regular game just assuming you might have the once/20 years extra innings, meaning teams will be annoyed that their pitcher threw 70 pitches or whatever or a bunch of fans don't get to see their guy pitch. OR you have the rule that guys can come back, which seems even less feasible.
If you pulled either of those off, once every 10-20 years you'd get to see a game go to extras that nobody really cares that much about...it could be fun with some dramatic ABs or it could go until 11:30 PM, 12 innings and everybody just wants to get the **** out of there, including 90% of fans watching.

Cubs will probably hit another 3 homes through the rest of the game to eventually win it.

Royals calling up Rich Hill to face the Cubs today. He's 45 and this is his 14th team.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I don't expect 45 year old Rich Hill to hold up in this game, but it would be incredibly funny if he did.

The Cubs are hitting nothing but piss rockets off of him and he’s not holding anyone on, but yea, he still shouldn’t have given up any runs yet.

Saw Earl Weaver mentioned this morning somewhere and randomly thought of this, which never gets old.

Damn, that sucks. I thought he was an extremely logical and realistic target for us.

Saying he's mid would be generous IMO so I won't get worked up over this one.

Roughly the equivalent of giving up Gasser and Meccage. No way in hell I'm giving that up for a rental 1B.

Wait a minute, I'm just now discovering that Eric Lauer is not only still in the MLB, but is pitching out of his mind for the Blue Jays?

Re: 2025 ATL Thread - Burnes to have TJ surgery
With so few impact bats on the market, Naylor not only may have been the best hitter available at this year's deadline, he also would have addressed a real need for the crew.
We could use a serious boost at first. I love what Vaughn has done for us in so few at bats (how could you not?). BUT, there's a reason we got him for a song. I'm sure a real regression is just around the corner.
Also, it's not like Hoskins has been Albert Pujols this season. Naylor is good enough to play every day, but he would've made an ideal platoon against righties if we really wanted to keep Vaughn/Hoskins around to face lefties.
This isn't a crushing blow by any means, but it is a bummer.

Naylor's numbers are buoyed by two huge months. He's also got extreme splits and is coming off a July in which he's got an OPS of .666. I would have taken him if he came cheap, but what he went for was far from cheap.

Re: 2025 ATL Thread - Burnes to have TJ surgery
I think it's okay to wish the Brewers had been able to acquire Naylor while simultaneously acknowledging that the price was too high. In other words, it's okay to wish that Seattle hadn't overpaid. All it takes is one impulsive team.
And while he's pretty underwhelming, it's not just about his value in the vacuum - it's about the fact that their LHB 1B's are probably negative WAR players, even in a platoon, and their RHB 1B's are not to be relied on IMO. It's potentially a pretty big lineup hole, and Naylor has pretty consistently been solid enough to be a clear upgrade. Impact is not measured in a vacuum; it's about the difference between what you have now and what you would be changing to.
On to the O'hearn watch. Can't imagine that the price will be right, but it's okay to hope so. Incidentally, he accumulated negative WAR at nearly twice the rate of Bauers through the same age, so it's not like he's a proven commodity. If he can turn his career around like this, maybe Bauers can too - but that's not something I'd bet on.
