Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Kerr with his stubborn decision - benching Kuminga led to:
1. He did reach nothing in PO (overplaying old leaders)
2. Have lost Kuminga trust
3. Free agency market is total trash for GSW due Kuminga new contract
According to Slater: Kerr is the one trying to get kuminga back, offering a secondary scoring role and minutes.
Too late for these talks after 4 years of ill-considered decisions.

2 years 28M with a team option. One way scorers just aren't worth their salary anymore. If they aren't a 1st option, and they can't defend well, then they are 6th men.
Grimes was also rumored to have gotten an MLE type offer from the 6ers.
So RFAs and their NBA teams are playing a game of chicken. JK is a MLE type player too. If Nets are cheaping out on their own RFA I highly doubt they would offer anything above the MLE to JK.
I say when the first RFA accepts a deal the rest will follow.
So, just inferring more about slaters comments:
Gsw is offering the most money
Kuminga doesn't think it's enough.
They are far apart on a number.
Nets and 6ers offering their rfas 14ish.
Giddey is probably the prize of this rfa crop, but he won't get 25-30 either.
Jk and his camp want 30M from gsw.
Gsw offers 20
Kings and the Suns are offering less than 20, but are offering more minutes and a starting role.
What a joke. Just let the QO expire on 10/1 and retain our RFA rights on JK. JK will prob holdout and wait until next calendar year to sign a contract with a team. It’ll likely be a high first year non guaranteed contract (similar to what Patrick McCaw signed with Cleveland) to get out of the RFA status before the 3/1 signing deadline.
JK is a lost cause. No point in checking this thread until 10/1 since there will be no movement for the next 2 months.

But the thing about offer sheets — the primary mechanism for RFAs to get paid what they think they’re worth — is that they’ve become increasingly rare in recent years. The chart below shows the number of offer sheets issued to RFAs by year, according to data from prosportstransactions.com

One of those past 4 years was a title. Also the system centered around Curry has kept him at All-NBA as well as winning the Finals MVP into his mid 30s.
So your criticism rings hollow.

Free agency has been becoming worse and worse. Players are securing the bag with the team and then asking for trades. Just another low iq move by jk's team.
Guess we're just waiting for the kings to make keon available for jk.

What really chaffs my hide is Kerr telling him to do nothing to improve his game.

Warriors want Keegan or Ellis. Kings have put those 2 off limits.
Kings are overpaying. I think the GSW front office isn't being realistic here.
The Warriors still have the most leverage. They can afford to be unrealistic. You have to assume they’re pretty comfortable with whatever other FA moves they intend to make or they’d be showing more urgency.

New from slater:
Kuminga vs warriors has been brewing for years.
5/150 was never an official offer last off season. Its the number the kuminga camp wanted as the baseline due to the Johnson extension. Gsw didn't want to be stuck with a poison pill contract, wanted the optionality to trade him. So chose not to extend him at any number.
They don't want to keep him, but will only trade him for a good offer. Sounds like 2 timelines again with team vs lacob with jk in the middle.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
I wonder if there's a way to do something like this...
GSW/Sac/Utah - GS may have to expand the trade to meet Utah's price of a young player vs 2 2nds or TJD or Santos.
Kuminga => Sac
GS 1st in 26 or 27 => Utah
(TJD or Santos) + 1 or 2 2nds => Utah
Saric + Sac protected 1st => Utah
Carter => GS
Kessler => GS
Curry, Podz/Moody, Butler, Draymond, Kessler | Moody/Podz, Hield, Carter, Post and quite possibly Horford, Melton
Kessler would give GS some size at center where that wouldn't be a need for many years and Carter should be at minimum a solid 2-way rotation player the possibility of being a starter.

Ainge wants at least 2 first rounders for Kessler.

Yes, that would be the protected 1st from Sac and a 1st from GS in 26 or 27 when GS should still be good.

JK and a frp for a center that won't start or close games? Trading our last real asset for another non-shooter next to dray and Jimmy? I'd pass

But the narrative is, he and his camp are utter morons, turning down 5/150. You can't possibly be implying that isn't the actual case, right? I mean, the world accepted the fact that jk is a narcissistic, money grubbing, mental midget; almost entirely based on the "fact" that JK turned down 150 million.
"Not extending him at any number" almost sounds like they didn't offer him any type of contract last summer, at all.

No actual offer. But im guessing alot of that was the expectation of the 5/150. Johnson was specifically mentioned as the barometer. Money was discussed, but there was no official offer.
Moody had no problems getting a deal done. Kuminga clearly wanted and still wants max dollars.

On the windy podcast, slater said the dubs didn't offer him any contract last summer because they wanted to have the option of trading him during the season. Poison pilling the contract, according to slater, was the problem for the dubs.
The 5/150 sounds like it was the comp JK & team was using during the initial conversations. Considering that's what Jalen Johnson got, I don't blame them for using that as the baseline.

I don’t know that the nuance of that number being what he was seeking rather than what the Warriors were offering changes the narrative that his camp significantly overshot his market value. What it actually sounds like is that the Warriors front office realized very quickly that the sides were too far apart for productive discussion and chose the wait and see approach.

This sounds much more likely to me than anything else that's out there.

Sure, Kessler would eat up minutes to hypothetically keep Horford rested for the season and individual games to close out games. Kessler has size to defend bigger players and on offense other than being a lob threat/finisher, he seems to be a decent passer just not utilzed that way.
I'm open for a better trade but as of now getting Saric, Carter and a prot 1st or G.Allen and N.Richards on an expiring contract doesn't seem to be better options.
I'm not upset at Kuminga, he's playing how he wants to (and how he wants to play during his career vs being a roleplayer which didn't help GS), it's the FO issue for not moving Kerr guys in front of him to give him his opportunity or just deciding to make that huge Butler swing without following that up with a Kuminga trade if the new team would waive his physical since he was injured at the time(maybe nobody would do that).
