For the last time. Google stuff if you want, talk about his wrestling only here.

Hulk Hogan embodied America as much as any singular person. The Good Bad and Ugly.

I think the Rock was calling people Jabronis when I last watched who are the big names these days? Might have to give it a watch and see what’s what

Hogan was definitely a transformational star who helped lift WWF/WWE into becoming a dominant cultural and entertainment company. You can't ignore how big he was back in the late 80s. His beef with Andre was epic. And his schtick was family friendly, which really helped draw in a lot of fans as the WWF exploded into national promotion and a mainstream brand. (That, in part, also made his heel turn epic as well).

But he became such a bright star that he basically outshined everyone else in the company, and he did everything he could to stay on top even if it meant screwing over other top performers. So many guys have shared stories of his scumbag behavior in the locker room.

He was also, objectively, a terrible wrestler. He basically had three moves and every match ended the same way with him.

For a few years I loved the **** out of WWF. Warrior was my favorite, the Hart Foundation was the best tag team, the Rockers were the coolest. Mr. Perfect and Razor Ramon were an asses. It killed me when Roddy Piper turned heal, but one of my favorite moments was Elizebeth coming to rescue Macho Man.

That said, my favorite moment was a Hulk moment but it was really a Warrior moment.

I was 11, my **** was lost.

The Warriors story is an interesting one (also a Dark Side of the Ring episode).

Everyone craps on Warrior and I get it. But I gained (some) respect for him from that doc. He was a poor kid from a trailer park in Indiana who grew up without a dad, and made something of himself. And the thing he created, was cool. I get he was a me first guy. I get he couldn’t wrestle. I get his promos were the babble of a lunatic. I get all that. But for little kids that secretly thought Hulk was lame, Warrior and Macho Man quickly emerged as more cool and interesting.

Refs can be a big part of the fun. They get "distracted" and don't see a heel cheating. They get "knocked out" and come to just in time to do the count and the heel wins. Heels rarely win legitimately. That's what makes them heels.

Before Vince took over wrestling was regional. In the midwest it was the AWA, run out of Minneapolis. Their weekly show was filmed in a TV studio with a couple hundred fans. It was also a babyface or heel against some scrub. They never faced each other on TV, that was for paid live events. Two of the scrubs were George "Scrap Iron" Gadaski and Kenny "Sod Buster" Jay. One week they decided to do a special "losers match" and pitted them together. They knocked each other out and both lost.

Warrior was one of my favorites. Outside the ring he was pretty bad but in the ring he was a lot of fun.

These were the coolest wrestling “angles” from my childhood, that stick with me to this day:

5. Hulk getting screwed over by twin referees
4. Jimmy Hart picking a guy out of the crowd for “the pushup challenge” and its a 500 pound guy who beats up the Warrior and becomes “Earthquake”
3. Earthquake squashing a fake snake in a bag (it was full of hamburger meat)
2. Ravishing Rick Rude selecting a woman out of the crowd to kiss and its Jake Roberts’ wife and now they are feuding!
1. Jake’s cobra biting Macho Man in the ring when he was tied in the ropes

The cobra bite was the best ever. The snake was devenomized but Macho Man didn't believe it and insisted the snake bite Jake first in the locker room. And he did. That was off camera, not part of the show. In the ring when the snake bit Macho Man it wouldn't let go. It took Jake a long time to pry it off.

Fun times lol.

I’ve never understood wrestling. I’ll admit that I’m a lifelong elitist wanker, so I’m not exactly the target demographic.

It's entertainment like a movie or a play. If done right (and a lot of it isn't) it can be a lot of fun.
