It would be interesting to hear what Wembanyama thinks about the president and first lady of France considering how their relationship began.

I don't like this idea of erasing or not acknowledging people tho because they did something wrong, you can still acknowledge someone as great athlete or entertainer or whatever despite personal failing. Like growing up I idolized Brett Favre and those memories still hold a special place, the bad things that he did don't change past.

of course what he did is abhorrent but it is interesting the vitriol Karl Malone gets specifically compared to the other rapists in NBA history, should the NBA be honoring Kobe Bryant?

Kobe was accused of rape, something he always denied. The criminal case against him was dropped and the 19 y/o hotel worker that saw a quick payday settled out of court. He cheated on his wife and got taken for a ride becasue he was rich and famous. Hardly a rapist.

This is great. I have no idea how Karl Malone continues to get a pass.

The virtue signaling is starting to wear thin over here.

I don't care about that conspiracy, its more the fact she was a married teacher in her 40s who began a relationship with Macron when he like 15.

"They met during a theatre workshop that she was giving when he was a 15-year-old student and she was a 39-year-old teacher.[362][363] A romantic relationship started later, and his parents attempted to separate the couple by sending him away to Paris to finish the final year of his schooling, as they felt his youth made this relationship inappropriate.[15][363] (The age of consent in France is 15.)"

It wasn’t just something stupid. He raped a twelve year old.

Some of this discourse is weird. She was sixth grader. She couldn’t consent. He was a college athlete.

It’s not a complex issue.

I would say this is pretty scandalous especially if we're applying a universal standard and not trying to contextualize things culturally.

So I know that 15 is older than 13, but it’s still a kid. It’s also inappropriate for a teacher to begin a romantic relationship with a student, even if the student is of legal age.

I guess we could say that the culture is different, but that’s the same argument some are using to defend Malone.

You could also say, “Who cares? They’re married and happy now,” but that’s the same argument people are using for Malone having a good relationship with his son.

Why? His records should be removed if he did something illegal that influenced those records, like bribing referees or Dr. Fuentes blood doping (although nobody in the NBA cares about doping anyway unless a player smokes some weed). What he did to that girl (and later son) has nothing to do with his 36928 points.

Whether the NBA should publicly celebrate him is a whole nother story, but his career happened.

Because it would be best if he were entirely forgotten. Some things are bigger than NBA statistics.

I am confused. How has Malone become a villain? Since the incident, has he encountered any legal problems? In a way, this post reflects the whole issue facing society. Although Malone's actions were wrong back then and are wrong now, those who are criticizing him are doing so because of how THEIR perceptions of what transpired changed.

All this was known for more than 50 years, but you were fine rooting for him when it suited your own fandom. For this reason, his statistics and records ought to be kept. Fans like you are the reason he had a career and a platform. The NBA allowed him into the league and UTAH fans cheered him and allowed him to play as long as he did to accrue those statistics.

Fifty years later, they can't say, "Well, yeah, well, we'd rather not recognize them some things are bigger than statistics". How incredibly self-serving and self-aggrandizing.
