Cooper Flagg Rookie Season Expectations
Two Questions:
1. What stats do think Flagg needs to put up to justify the hype?
2. What stats do you think Flagg will actually put up?

Maybe Deni Avdija in 23-24 level stats or so. Perhaps higher usage, especially early in the year due to injuries to other guys.
My expectations for overall quality (counting stats are very role dependent) are All-NBA (6-15 league-wide) in his 4th year. 20-40 in his 3rd year. 50-90 in his 2nd year. 100-150 as a rookie - which is really impressive for the youngest player in the league.

I think he puts up something like 16/7/3 and 3-4 stocks per game. That would justify the hype for me but I’m sure many will be disappointed with his point totals this year.

He will need to be the #1 option for Dallas to have a successful season. 18 attempts per game and 24ppg.
Anthony Davis might not be able to average 30mpg.
Kyrie Irving is recovering.
Cooper Flagg will eventually need to be the option. If not, Dallas will be in the lottery.
Mavs are over or under 39.5 wins.

Justify the hype 24 pts 7 rebounds 5 assists
The stats he puts up 16 pts 5 rebounds 4 assists

You can't make a 19 year old the number 1 option with AD on the team.

I suppose we should ask Jeff Teague what he thinks...

By the stats he’s not going to live up to the hype. He doesn’t play for stats. He doesn’t care about his point total. He’ll set screens, space the floor, box out, and do everything right that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet.

Justify the hype? Casual hype will want him north of 20 ppg, I'd imagine.
If Dallas is any kind of healthy, though, it would be safer to bet on like 17/8/4 or something like that if he's coming through, with probably around 3 stocks. That'd be a fantastic rookie campaign, especially if he was anywhere near efficient in his scoring.
Depending on their health, and if Kyrie actually comes back this year and all that stuff, we might see them lean on him more as a scorer, which would tank his efficiency most likely (as it does with most rookies coming into that sort of situation) but might also accelerate his development a little.
I dunno. If he defends well, showcases his versatility and shows us a little of his athleticism and that pull-up J, that should generally be considered a successful rookie campaign.

Trusting AD is your first problem.
29mpg is what he averaged for Dallas in 9 games. A walking hazard.

I honestly didn't even know AD played that many games for them. Thought it was five.

Re: Cooper Flagg Rookie Season Expectations
Most #1 picks are usually drafted to teams who were pretty bad the season before and therefore get ample playing time and can afford to make mistakes. He is drafted to a good team, honestly, if he can make himself useful, and be impactful out the gate, will probably justify his #1 pick.
People will unfortunately compare him to Luka. But if he can live up to Luka’s rookie year numbers (though not the same conditions) kid’s going to annoy me with the amount of threads that will be on the general board.

Well, for starters, rookie Flagg at least won't have to deal with Salah Mejri and Powell as his main centers lol...A healthy Mavs have a very deep team this season. But that's the key, health.

I don't think he needs to average close to 6apg but agree on the rest on decent efficiency. 18-20/8/3 would be fine while flashing a decent 3pt % because he should be getting plenty of open looks from everywhere playing next to Kyrie and AD.

He is quick, good handles, big, above avg strength but not Lebron strength. I could see him avg 25 ppg as 1st option similar to Lebron during his AD/Bron duo years. Zion avg 22.5 his rookie year and to me Flagg has a better offensive skill set with jumpers and 3 pointers.

It’s way easier to score 20 than it ever has been. He might not be all the way at 20, but I would be shocked if he’s at like 15.

Seems very unrealistic to try and get your 19 year old raw rookie that kind of volume as a #3 option. I mean why even do that? Let him avg closer to 20 on good efficiency on a team that could actually contend for a title and focus more on defense. 18-20ppg is all they need from him.

He specifically said "1st option," not "#3 option," which is why the volume issue isn't quite the same as what you're discussing. It all depends on what the team wants to do with him. I think high teens for his rookie year is probably a safe bet, and where he goes from there depends on how he develops after that first season. They have the luxury not to pile on him too much in year 1.
