In Lebron the Lakers have committed $52.6-mil for one season of a 41 year old 2nd team All-NBA player. The combination of salary, productivity and age is striking. Never before has such a productive player had so little future beyond the current season. Trading for any player at that salary would be challenging. Lebron's limited future, makes it almost impossible.

The Lakers have no significant incentive to buy out the contract, unless Lebron were to give back most of the money.

The irony is that free agent Lebron would have been an overwhelming favorite to win another championship if had opted to sign with one of the leading contenders instead of re-upping with L.A.

the thing is no CONTENDER will give up an asset for lebron

almost everyone is moving towards youth and depth.

lebron can go to cavs and the big story of returning home will camoflauge the obvious ring chasing move

Back to the Eastern Conference where he thrives. But there’s no one out there to stack the deck with that who’s willing to give up assets.

Tough spot

Only if he demands it. He’s still chasing that GOAT title so really, he’s better doing with another team since he won’t get another with the Lakers.

Pretty much what we already knew when it comes to Labron going to Dallas.

Cavs could trade for him a Bronny. Need a 3rd or 4th team to make it work.

-Garland for a less expensive player about same level value/talent.

-Hunter/Allen to Lakers.

-Struss needs to be moved too.

The ironic part in all of this is that if LeBron were willing to re-sign for the minimum -- I know, he won't -- he could stay in L.A. the next few years as the team reloads around Luka and have a darn good chance of winning more championships.

Of course, that would also mean he'd have to lessen his role over time and perhaps sit out some games to stay fresh for the playoffs.

That said, I respect he wants to do it his way.

This is a tough one. His salary is very high and he is old. I don’t see a buyout for a player his caliber. Most likely he finishes the year in L.A. if he moves, it would be to a veteran heavy team with nothing to lose. Golden State, Clippers, Heat make the most sense. Unlikely but possible options include Minnesota, Denver and New Orleans.

I think he'd go back to the Cavs for a 3rd time before he'd go back to the Heat for a 2nd time.

He will finish the season with the lakers then retire.
Or maybe he decides to keep playing and signs with another team…

Fairly easy trade to get James to Golden State. Assuming S&T legal.

Kuminga (S&T)
Moody
Filler

FOR

James
Bronny

Green
James
Butler
Hield
Curry

Average age of starters would be about 37. Crazy.

It’s just a more permanent version of wearing a jersey with another man’s name on it.

It's been widely reported, by multiple people that the Cavs don't have any interest in anything like that. If LBJ wants to have a farewell tour on a small contract after this season, that's probably in the cards, but they're not gutting the team to add him at a salary that's harder and harder to justify.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.
