Best modern 10-man Jazz rotation

Post#1 » by durantbird » Yesterday 4:23 pm

Pick ten players, you can use their best season wearing Jazz uniform (at least 50% of the season playing for the Jazz).
Assemble your best 10-man rotation best suited in your eyes to compete in modern-game environment.

My pick:
John Stockton / Deron Williams
Raja Bell / Donovan Mitchell
Gordon Hayward / Jeff Hornacek
Andrei Kirilenko / Joe Ingles
Karl Malone / Rudy Gobert

Potential candidates:
Adrian Dantley, Mike Conley, Paul Millsap, Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur, Jeff Malone, Kyle Korver, Bryon Russell, Royce O'Neale, George Hill, Mark Eaton, Ricky Rubio, Lauri Markkanen

I've defended Karl Malone (the player) enough on here, he's off my All-time Jazz squad.

Stockton/Williams
Mitchell/Hornacek
Hayward/Ingles
AK47/Millsap
Gobert/Favors

Dantley - not in love with how he scales with more talent

Those are just the clear 4 top guards in Jazz history. At forward without Malone it gets pretty straightforward for starters, Ingles is one of my favorites, but Russell would be a perfectly reasonable pick in that bench wing slot. Markkanen vs Millsap was a tough call for me, can see going either way there. Gobert the easy C pick. Went with Favors for backup because A) I wanted a guy I could play with Gobert (sorry Eaton) and B) He's my favorite player ever.

Lots of pressure on Donovan for iso scoring (and/or faith in Stockton to coordinate a multipolar offence). A very mean defensive squad, though.

I think you absolutely have to include Markkanen and Dantley. They're too talented regardless of era to be left out in my opinion. I really like Mark Eaton but there's too many uncertainties putting him in the modern game when Rudy is no slouch for doing the same thing today. This team has plenty of scoring at all positions and still solid defensively.

PG: Stockton / Deron
SG: Mitchell / O'Neale
SF: Bell / Hayward
PF: Malone / Kirilenko
C: Gobert / Okur

Going with Bell and O'Neale to balance it out defensively, and Hayward over Dantley for team chemistry. Threw in Okur to probably play as much as Frye on the Cavs and be a curveball, with Malone getting some time at backup C as well.
