When you bring up Dwane Casey I think of the T-Ross selection and the DeMarre Carroll signing. 2 players that he really liked. I like what he achieved here but no thanks.

Its a big F U to the fanbase when you fire Masai and bring in someone closer towards retirement from the game altogether he will be 70 years old soon.
As Danny Green said, good luck replacing him.

Like someone said above this is a move by executives that have no clue about basketball. I don't think they have a clue about telecom either.
These asshats are also bringing back their workers 5 days in the office.

20 wins, 20 wins, 23 wins, 17 wins before being fired.

This ignores they overachieved to 41 wins in his first year, and that for the next 4 years he has the leagues worst roster, and his replacement won 14 games lol

Not a fan of Casey’s coaching, but you can’t possibly look at his rosters he had and conclude anything  most of the guys he coached had developed into good pros today though, to be fair

I seem to be the only one even partly meh on Casey, but I also don’t want him having an ability to override Bobby’s general managers duties. So again, it would all depend on what the roles and responsibilities were, as every front office has a different relationship. If Casey was just here to set a culture (which was admittedly very good during his tenure), then that is fine. But yeah - he certainly shouldn’t be in charge of making trades.

I remember seeing the blue font on Scace for excessive negativity I think? I could be wrong on Del.

No clue what thread it was. This was a few weeks ago

i'm starting to get the sense Casey will be the president.
here are a few reasons why:
- Casey is known quantity among the MLSE board, and had his supporters, notably Bell CEO George Cope
- based on that support, Casey knows how to speak "their" language, something i don't think Bobby Webster is as good as talking to the boards
- Ed Rogers is known for bringing back guys he knows of. Casey again is a known quantity
- price - Casey is ok with being paid 1-2 million dollars (i'm guessing 2 million dollars or so), and taking the bullets for Ed Rogers and Keith Pelley

Do I think this is a good idea. Probably not, but i just hope we don't burn things to the ground here. I'll say one thing though. Casey's good at motivating people.....horrible at X and Os and having his favorites, but at least he played the bench unlike Nick Nurse

I've been following this team religiously for almost 30 years. If Dwayne Casey is made president I will have to strongly consider abandoning my favorite team. I have never, ever, in 50+ years of sports fandom, seen anyone I thought was as awful in all aspects of any sport as Dwayne Casey.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

EDIT: Thinking about it again, going from Masai to Dwayne Casey would be so incredibly idiotic that I would absolutely say goodbye on the spot.

I really don't want that to happen. I like it here.

it's bad from basketball perspective, but from MLSE perspective, if they looking for someone who can speak their language, who they comfortable with and understand basketball, then they happy

Hiring Casey fits the impression I got that the president role is a temporary one. This would be a very fake hire and lay bare the obvious which is that they really just wanted Masai gone and to forego the extra cost of having a president for the Raptors.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I don't think Casey's a bad guy to have in the room as a consultant, but as a lead decision-maker? That would be nuts. He couldn't even be trusted to hire his own assistants; Masai hand-picking quality assistants for him was a big factor in the tournaround of the franchise.

He played Calderon over Lowry

To be fair, at the time Lowry wanted Casey to change the entire offense to Rick Adelman's offense that worked well for him in Houston. He would openly pout, walk off the court into the locker room in games when he was flustered, and in hindsight revealed that he had his bags packed counting down to FA. He absolutely deserved to be benched for Calderon at the time, and there isn't a bigger advocate for Lowry on this board than me.

Probably the biggest mark against Casey as a coach is that he allowed Rudy Gay to burn the stat sheets. He seemed to have lost control of the room until Masai made that trade.

As an executive, I have no idea what his influence is on Detroit. The players all do seem to love him. He's not a 'vets only' type of person. He's not a wet noodle like Brad Stevens, who was fired and then bumped upstairs just like Casey was in Detroit. But he's also not someone that I would want spearheading off-season plans or having final say on draft night. The fact that he was fired by the guy he would be replacing makes this a really bizarre situation. Like, the guy he's replacing won a title, so how are you going to legitimately sell the fanbase that you're better in his job?

Are you citing Brad Stevens as a negative example?

I look at him as a very good coach who surprisingly went to the front office with no experience and has done a great job there.

Maybe Casey can emulate that

Would MLSE think Casey is a business man? I haven't seen Casey in that position until recently I guess. it would be more of a yes man type of person who is familiar with this org and knows basketball. Not sure how id feel about it after the initial jokes it would be.
