Warriors Offer Jonathan Kuminga Two-Year, $40 Million Contract

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 29, 2025 2:20 am

The Golden State Warriors' best contract offers to Jonathan Kuminga have topped out at two years and $40 million, according to sources. Kuminga's representatives continue seeking sign-and-trade opportunities with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns as the most determined suitors.

Golden State reportedly wants a first-round pick in any sign-and-trade arrangement. The Suns do not have an available first-round pick to offer, complicating potential negotiations.

Kuminga faces a $7.9 million qualifying offer deadline of October 1. Accepting the qualifying offer would make him an unrestricted free agent during the 2026 offseason and also give him veto rights on any trade.

The 2021 seventh overall pick averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season. He posted a PER of 15.6 while playing inconsistently in Steve Kerr's system.

Kuminga has struggled to find his optimal role within Golden State's offense. The Warriors selected him from the G League Ignite program in 2021 but haven't maximized his potential in their system.

The addition of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline further complicated Kuminga's fit. Lineups featuring both Kuminga and Draymond Green have lacked proper spacing, limiting offensive effectiveness.

Aaron Turner represents Kuminga in contract negotiations. The forward must decide between accepting Golden State's offer, taking the qualifying offer, or pursuing a sign-and-trade opportunity before the October deadline.

That's a good deal for Kuminga! He should take it. Otherwise, he risks playing for the qualifying offer.

He hasn’t really had a chance to, unless curry isn’t taking all the shots and Steve Kerrs head isn’t up his ass

$20M per year may seem a bit low for Kuminga, but instead of thinking it that way, you can say he's essentially getting paid his QO of $7.9M for the 1st season and then $32.1M for the 2nd season.

Its not really about that. Its his first contract off of rookie scale, he's a rotation player(lottery pick) and these guys still get paid for potential. Its not like hes some complete bust or something.

This will be their 2 best lotto picks becoming complete duds, how do you recover from that, they can't afford to have him become nothing

20mil is low and 25mil per would be about right for a multiple year contract. People like Jalen Suggs who doesn't even have the same stat performance but gets 30mil per. Not says Ws need to hand out bad contract like that, but 2yr and 20mil is a slap on the face. Even if he takes it, you are getting a guy who doesn't play wholeheartedly for the win to fit with Curry/Butler/Green's final ring push, but only about getting his numbers for another big contract. It the market is better, Kuminga could easily get 20mil per and 4, 5 years from a lot of teams, or even 30mil per. He was the 2nd best scorer last year and still was with games that Curry sat out this year. Kerr just couldn't figure out a way to use him. Not saying he is a complete player, but complet player get a lot more in this league.

Well if he’s worth more than what Warriors are offering he’d already be on an offer sheet. The Warriors aren’t going to compete against themselves. I would have thought a 3 year, $75 million dollar flat deal would get it done but I forget Kuminga took a half a step back last season development wise. Nobody is giving him a 9 figure deal on the market (ie. 4 years, $100 million). 3 years, $67.5 million with $50 million guaranteed - $22.5/$22.5/$22.5(5 million guaranteed) - is what they’ll land on

Get the money. Secure your family.
In 2 years, you can ask for more.
An injury can change everything.

Nerlens Noel should be the example for any player going forward.

Second contract guys who aren't max players aren't going to get automatically paid anymore. They will have to earn it a little more.

Kuminga should take the 2-40 and just ask to be traded as soon as is allowed (next summer I believe). Giddey, Grimes, and Thomas should follow suit.

I think we are missing the point. Kuminga doesn't want to play for GSW anymore unless it's for a ton of money as the memories are not great. Sucks when you want to help a team but aren't allowed to because your young player mistakes are taken too seriously while trying to win... it takes a mental toll. So get a trade done (Cam Thomas) and move on

The market for non-star players has dried up due the the punitive first and second apron cap rules. Nobody wants to be locked in to long contracts at $25+ mil because it could handcuff their roster building for years if it doesn't work out.

Well now that he knows what the Warriors best offer is he can go sign an offer sheet the Warriors won't match.
