5+ Former/Current All-Stars
Season Outcomes For Teams With Five Or More Former/Current All-Stars (Minimum 800 Minutes Played For Each Player)'
Won Finals 12.9%
Made Finals 29%
Made Conference Finals 41.9%
Made Second Round 51.3%
Made Playoffs 90.3%
No Playoffs 9.7%
What Separates The Winners From The Losers
Average Age Of Qualifying Teams That Won The Championship And Failed To Make The Postseason
MIA 2005-06 31.6 Won Finals
GSW 2016-17 29.5 Won Finals
GSW 2017-18 30.5 Won Finals
MIL 2020-21 29.8 Won Finals
DAL 2012-13 33.4 No Playoffs
LAL 2021-22 34.2 No Playoffs
GSW 2023-24 33.4 No Playoffs
What Does This All Mean For The Clippers?
In theory, the Clippers are kind of screwed. All five of their former or current All-Stars are over the age of 30 and tout an average age of 35.8 years old. Of the 19 teams that won at least one playoff series, none of them had a group of former or current All-Stars all past the age of 30. So, historically speaking, they’re more similar to those teams that didn’t make deep playoff runs than the ones which did.
In fact, only one of these 31 teams was in the same situation as the 2025-26 Clippers. That was the 2012-13 Mavericks, which failed to make the postseason with Dirk Nowitzki (34), Shawn Marion (34), Vince Carter (36), Elton Brand (33) and Chris Kaman (30).
To be fair to the Clippers, age is only a number. The real key, regardless of age, is some of the guys looking more like current All-Stars than former ones. Heck, with modern-day technology, one could do that in their age-40 season!

Yes, makes sense. As a Summer League First-Teamer, Miller could surely do as well as Brandon Boston did for the Pels (averaging 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 23.6 minutes, shooting 35% from three in 2024-25). Unlike ordinary G-Leaguers who can be snatched up without compensation by any NBA team, 2-way guys are bound to the club and can be traded. I could see somebody desperate enough to give us a SRP.
[BTW, BBJ was converted to a standard 2-year contract* but not brought back by the Pels and afaik has no NBA gig anywhere.]
*a 2-year, $2.9 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, signed in February 2025, according to SalarySwish. The Pelicans
declined their team option for the second year of this contract, making him a free agent.

I don't see Miller getting moved. We have so many old guys that there's a high possibility of injury all throughout the season. If one, two, or even three guys get injured who do you trust more to fill in the holes, Miller or Pat Baldwin? The summer league told the front office they had to keep Miller period. Add in two guys ahead of him that aren't scorers like Dunn and DJJ, it was a no brainer.

In any case, with a 2-way, Miller can't just be scooped up by any team with a roster slot open. And yes, I can see your scenario where he could see some meaningful minutes if a bunch of oldsters went down. You certainly can't give them to Baldwin.

In case you were wondering:
- Coffey is 28 years old and 6-foot-7 and can’t be left alone behind the arc. He’s consistent, understands his limitations, and was the longest-tenured Clipper other than Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac before the club decided to go in a different direction. (L.A. still has an empty roster spot, but signing Coffey would put it in the first apron and dramatically increase its luxury tax bill.) Bottom line: This is a dependable NBA rotation player. Why don’t the Golden State Warriors sign him? Or the New York Knicks? Or the Miami Heat? There’s something virtuous in every role player who accepts self-denial as a survival mechanism. That’s Coffey, a professional conformist with skills that accentuate those of his more talented teammates. A good team should sign him.

39.9% on 3.7 attempts per game.

Yah, QG. JC IS only 27. Perhaps playing with 3 HOFers will light his fire at last!
I haven't really watched him play. ATL and UTA were dead ends. Collins has put up Tobias Harris and Jeff Green [in his prime] numbers. All three are 6'9" or so. Just like them, at the end of the night, JC's put up his numbers although you can't remember any particular highlights or clutch plays. The fans neither love him or hate him, he's just kind of there. A stretch 4, a better rebounder than Tobias but not quite the scorer. All 3 are known as soft.
But that's all we really need with this bunch: Someone to let Kawhi be a dominant SF and not a 4, go out there hit some 3s, and be tall. None of those 3 were known for grit or defense; that'll have to come from somewhere else. But we've been shopping for a stretch 4 as long as I can remember, dating back not just to 213 but Lob City as well. Collins has a good shot at being better than any of 'em.

Here’s something about Collins—and keep in mind that I didn’t watch a whole lot of him either. The Hawks were a hot mess when he got there, and were somewhere in the mediocre to good range in the last three years he played there. I remember hearing that Collins seemed/looked above average but put up some “empty numbers.” His raw numbers and, honestly, advanced metrics were all good. But the impression seemed to be that he wasn’t a needle mover.
So. I went back and looked at Collins’ final five years in Atlanta, after he became a full time starter. And, like I expected, the team was … mediocre when he played. JC played in 290 games, and the team went 136-154. But here’s the deal—and this surprised me—they were worse when he didn’t play. Kind of a lot worse. Try 38-69. The quality of the team didn’t change the impact he made by the much. In the last three years with Hawks—when they were pretty good—the teams was 97-91 when he played. They were 28-31 when he wasn’t on the court.
Same with the Jazz. JC played in 108 games with the Jazz, and they were 39-69 when he was out there. That’s bad. But they were—wait for it—9-47 when he didn’t play. And, man, that is a lot worse. So very, very much worse. I think it was another thread where I posted that I’m pretty sure the Jazz deliberately kept him out in most of the second half of last season because they wanted to win the Cooper Flagg Derby and Collins was actually winning games for them.
Does this absolutely prove anything? I don’t think so. But it’s pretty strong evidence against the idea that Collins wasn’t a positive factor. In the last 7 seasons, his teams won about 44% of the games he played in. But they won only 29% of the games when Collins wasn’t on the court. I get the fact that there were probably outside factors and he only really had one decent year in the playoffs. But this is a case where there’s too much there there. His teams were bad—but they were really, really bad when Collins didn’t play. And they were a lot better when he was on the court. That, in my book, seems like a needle mover. We’ll see it how it all shakes down, but I’m somewhat more optimistic now.

Re: Off season, free agency, coaching change.
Worst plus/minus after the ASB by far except for the scrubs. The league no doubt noticed that. Minus-8.1 per 100 possessions is pretty unplayable. [Next worst was Eubanks at minus-1.3. Nobody else was in the minus.] When you're the worst, there's really mathematically nobody else to blame it on.

"play the kids"
We did. They were ASS. Now PLEASE--Can you STFU this year and let us enjoy whatever wins the Over the Hill Gang can generate? Terance "The Future" Mann was ass. Amir earned every dollar of his minimum wage contract but was still ass. The "kids" were all ass. Now they are either gone or here on 2-ways or G-League contracts [Miller] and they will STILL be ass. Coach gave them every shot not to be ass. But they were ass. Now they will be ass somewhere else. Or in G-League. Or China or Tel Aviv. Or the Turkish Industrial League. Or nowhere at all.
Coaching change my ass.
