Put all those resources to use and go find every meth cooking house there is in the states. And go after every human trafficking lowlives, especially involving children. Etc.
There's far bigger evil fish to fry.
Agreed. I mean people can gamble legally through sportsbooks now. But from your house it's some terrible thing? Ridiculous.
Guaranteed the US will look back on this in 50 years, 20 years, heck 5 years and the vast majority of the population 95% will ask why the heck this was illegal in 2025. People can killed constantly, women assaulted, guys are committing suicide at record rates, kids being abused/neglected, mental health crisis all day every day - So sorry I'm not concerned with what rich people do in their house & choosing to gamble. The law makes no sense. No-one is being harmed by someone in a gabling ring, unless you're arguing the route of someone being addicted to gambling or whatnot but that's on that individual person and not on the person setting up the opportunity for them to harm themselves (last I checked beer stores aren't held liable if someone's mental health spirals from drinking alcohol).

I think you're missing why he was arrested. It's not because of gambling that went on in his home. It's the fact that he was making money from it in a state where gambling is illegal. You can't just start up your casino business wherever you want in a state where gambling is illegal.
Also sports betting is illegal in California. States have their own laws. Even in states where gambling is permitted, you would need a permit to open a casino. Hell you need one in Nevada, there's a gaming commission that regulates things. You may see this as harmless but its the precedence that it sets where people can start running this as a business and it getting out of control. A lot of Casinos have things they are held to by state's regulation boards.

People are really bending over backwards to miss the point.
Gilbert Arenas is an idiot masquerading as an intellectual. He got what was coming to him... If you thought this dude turned things around or was actually on some mega mind BS, you fell for the scam.

Gilbert seems to always find some BS to get stuck in. Illegal nonsense, loose, crazy women, ect. But then I remember this is the dude who was gonna take 4 cars over extra $4 million dollars. Doesn't seem like a bad guy, just a goofy, silly azz mofo that can't get out his own way.

Umm my entire post was basically "the law makes no sense" and you responded by stating the law. I'm not the 1 that is missing the point. I KNOW IT IS ILLEGAL. I'm stating it shouldn't be though.
You say they need to penalize something like this because if they don't people will "run this as a business and it get out of control". Well I disagree that someone should be pentalized because of the POTENTIAL for something to be out of control. That's not how the law should work. I'm of the firm belief that if people want to gamble money with other human beings they should have the right to do so - especially in someone's private house. You are taking what actually happened and creating some hypothetical where it can escalate "out of control" which I'm not even sure what you even by that honestly.

LOS ANGELES – Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and five other defendants – including a suspected high-level member of an Israeli transnational organized crime group – were arrested today on a federal indictment alleging they operated an illegal gambling business in which high-stakes poker games were played at an Encino mansion Arenas owned.
Arenas, 43, a.k.a. “Agent Zero,” of Woodland Hills, is charged with one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, one count of operating an illegal gambling business, and one count of making false statements to federal investigators.

Arenas appeared in court Wednesday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles and was released on a $50,000 bond after pleading not guilty to the charges. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 23.

If the IRS isn't getting its cut, it can take down Capone. Arenas didn't stand a chance.

I don’t think you’re gonna change his mind. He was trying to donate to a gofundme to bail him out

Again its not about people gambling. The host being the person that's making money OFF OF someone else gambling is the illegal act here. It seems you can't read. People can gamble and do what they want, poker games for wagers at homes are not illegal. Once you make it into a business where the person hosting the game is charging a fee to host it, it becomes a business. There's a precedence that gets set when you allow for this to occur. Basically what you're arguing is that any casino anywhere should not have any regulation and should be permitted to run without any consequence. There's a pretty firm downside to that, there's a reason why that regulation exists in every state that has legalized gambling of any kind. By your logic why do we even have any laws? Why get a ticket for a seatbelt?
You do realize a lot of industries require permits and licenses to operate right? This is no different. You missed the entire point yet again.

I'm sure running a house of prostitution isn't legal in CA, as well.California Gold wrote:BrianInPhilly wrote:Handlez wrote:So he setup high stakes gambling at his house.

It's the waitresses that worked for tips and had to kick some back to the house for working there. Apparently offering 'companionship' was part of their job role as well. Sounds a lot like pimps and hoes.

There wasn't a charge of prostitution like the "Mann act" so I think he will be good.
