Bassitt is coming off the books end of this season too. We'll have the money to sign Bieber if he pitches well.

Low risk and pretty high potential if he gets back to where he he was. For a deep playoff run you need elite pitching and along the way it helps to have the depth to reduce injury risk and have depth if someone does go down.

I feel like the prices here have been fair.

Bluejays were in on the A's Miller but the Padres just traded the #3 prospect in baseball + 3 pitchers for him. Yikes.

How much is Bednar going to cost now?

Weren't gonna be able to match that Miller offer. Now we wait and see if they can get another impact RP in here; it'll cost them significantly though.

Duran is controlled for 2.5 more seasons i believe. So it’s not that bad.

The Phillies gave up their 3rd and 11th best prospect per Baseball America's rankings, one of whom is #50 in their Top 100.

We'd be talking Nimmala or Yesavage + someone like Martinez or Rojas. I'm inclined to pay less for a rental knowing how they are performing this seasons vs. counting on Duran AND the team performing over the next 2 seasons (especially with the age and pending free agency of some of our starters).

Latest report from Morosi is that the Jays are close to acquiring Shane Bieber. That's an interesting play given he's still coming back from Tommy John. Sounds like a one-for-one, which is disappointing as I would have hoped for a bigger deal with Kwan if they were trading with the Guardians.

What do you think the window is for this current team? If the Jays are focused on the next 2-3 years of contention, we should be okay with paying the price for the right pieces.

But I understand its more of a marathon than anything. Jays already have a mediocre (at best) farm system and gutting it would probably be devastating for 5+ years down the road. Also would be pretty devastating if none of our current top prospects do anything in their careers and we start playing the what if scenario.

Don’t think I’d be very happy about that if I was a Padres fan.

They get to watch Miller throw 104 for 5 more years; they'll be all right.

Assuming his arm holds up. Which seems unlikely, given how often pitchers get hurt.

The A’s also got the Padres 3rd, 13th, and 17th ranked prospects in the deal.

Altho, it’s worth noting the Padres only had 2 players in MLB Pipeline’s top 100.

I guess it's a question of the right pieces. I'm not sure a guy like Duran is going to put you over the top. A rental who is 80% as good as Duran but doesn't cost one of your top 2 prospects might be a better consideration. Or maybe not. It's all calculated risk right?

Pumped about the Bieber acquisition! Was on my wishlist for this deadline. Didn't cost much and has looked good in his recent rehab stints.

I mean, it really all comes down to who Bieber is going to be post-surgery. If he's back to himself, this is an easy win. If he isn't... then we're just spinning wheels.

I really hope they've got the medical team to do a full exam before finalising the trade.
