I wonder if we ever got close to renting Suarez.

Seattle with 1 playoff appearance in 24 years, I guess they want to try for another
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Wasn’t Blaze Jordan dubbed the “Next Bryce Harper”? Seems to have good minor league numbers.

The Mariners have a strong farm system, so that would be like giving up multiple top-10 prospects for a lot of teams. Also, teams don't pay as much for rentals as they used to, nor should they. Hitters seem much easier to acquire than pitchers this deadline - I know I already mentioned this a page ago, but I really wish the Brewers would take advantage of the market inefficiencies on both accounts (sell a pitcher or two and add some hitting).

Disappointed that they didn't get Ramon Urias. If Ortiz bounces back, I don't think it will be this year. The constantly shifting batting stance just reeks of desperation. Major Joey Wiemer vibes right now. Monasterio is not a legit MLB player, and I don't think Turang's arm would play at SS on a daily basis. It's kind of wispy, and he had that arm fatigue issue when trying SS during spring training.

I hope that the Suarez trade changes the trade market in the AL wild card race. Cleveland, KC, Tampa, and LAA aren't that far back, but the Mariners have made themselves much harder to catch by adding Naylor and Suarez, and Texas is just as talented as Seattle. Turning 4 undecided teams from potential buyers into sellers could lower the cost on some guys that would help the Brewers.

Some big names in that trade that I wouldn't have expected to be moving.

The A's are receiving shortstop Leodalis De Vries, the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, along with three pitchers from San Diego for Mason Miller and J.P. Sears, sources tell ESPN.

Giving up DeVries is insane

Are there any stud SS rentals that might be secretly available?

I'm so glad I'm not a Padres fan. I'd be so mad if I was

Padres might be trading Suarez and Cease now. They are a "bites of the apple" team but they trade for bigger names and then unload them before they reach free agency.

Wander Franco

Pretty much all of the good ones are already on a contender and/or under team control for at least 2 more years, which makes it very unlikely that anyone is shopping them. Carlos Correa has a somewhat scary contract with 3 guaranteed years after this one and is having a terrible year, but he's the closest thing to a "good" player who is likely to be availabe right now.

That said, I'm probably in the minority on this one, but Pena, Made, and Pratt can't all be the SS of the future, and the Brewers have a lot of 1B/DH type prospects as well. It would make some sense to make a really enticing offer to a team with a really good young SS under team control and a window of contention that's a few years out. Washington might consider trading Abrams instead of wasting his team control years, for example. Neto, Perdomo, Edwards... it wouldn't hurt to make a few phone calls and be like, "Hey, wouldn't it be crazy if we offered enough prospects to get you to trade ___?"

Hendry Mendez was part of this deal. Brewers trade him for Oliver Dunn.

Man, big market teams just doing whatever they want. They’re getting all the players.

Correa...interesting. I wonder how much they're paying because I think he's washed.

A lot of Twins fans complaining about ownership, which I get - but so many of their young guys have underwhelmed after a hot start to their careers...this is probably right for them.
