You mean those would be the only guys who could fetch a good young SS in a one-for-one deal, or as the headliner in a multi-prospect deal? I'm not versed in that feature of fangraphs to check.

In any case, that wouldn't be what I'm suggesting because you'd be giving up current contributors, which doesn't make sense for either team. The premise is that the Brewers need a good current contributor at SS, whereas a number of treadmill/bad teams should consider punting on the next couple seasons. Therefore, it would be a package of younger players who aren't MLB-ready yet, including Pratt or Pena, a corner IF/DH type, and a couple pitchers.

Hadn't you all but given up on Les Mis as a starter just a few months ago because of his command issues in AAA? I mean, I'm not blaming you for changing your mind after seeing him pitch the last 6 weeks, but between that and your insistence that Vaughn and Durbin are the answers as full-time corner IF's on a contending team with the best record in baseball, I'm starting to wonder if you've just decided that you don't give a damn about sample size anymore.

ETA: Add Perdomo and Xavier Edwards to the list of potential targets. It's mostly just a thought experiment for the sake of discussion, but I don't think it would be a bad idea if one of those teams is open to it.

My main thing is I would like to upgrade on Monasterio as the utility guy. We are one injury from him as an every day starter. It shouldn't cost a ton to upgrade there either

I would be underwhelmed with Kiner-Falefa, but I have to admit that he would be a lot better than Monasterio - and probably Ortiz, for that matter.

I would say no. Not really interested in a Devin reunion.

Didnt realize just how bad he’s been. His era this year is higher than his last 3 years with us combined…

Watch us bring him back in a year or two and fix him like jeffress

Not sure Devo is cut out for high pressure (playoffs, NYC). I see Yankees are adding a ton of bullpen help. Devo losing alot of future money post Game 3 disaster.

Him punching the wall and missing the 21 playoffs and how he reacted to the Hader trade told me all I needed to know about Devin. I think we lucked out with him.

Jake Bauers, he of the .663 career OPS and still no signs of improvement at nearly 30 years old, is their #2 LHB power bat behind Yelich - who doesn't exactly have a track record of reliable power since 2019 himself. Don't overthink the position stuff; they can find PAs for a good LHB, and they shouldn't have to give up much to get a guy like O'hearn. Baltimore is only playing themselves if they think they have the upper hand - the market is much stronger for pitchers than it is for inconsistent hitters like O'hearn, who really has only been a little above average for 3 years after being bad for 4 years before that.

One hour to go, standing completely pat today would be tough to take.

I'm fine with standing pat. Making a move just to make a move is pointless. No doubt Arnold has been active in talks but if the right deal isn't there so be it.

It's not making a move to make a move. It's making a move to improve your team. You can't tell me all these teams today and all these deals being executed are "making moves just to make moves".

Right. There is no doubt Arnold would love to improve the team. But again the right players have to be available at the right price. It takes 2 teams to make a deal. If the price is too high, don't overpay. I trust Arnold's judgement.

Just logged back in to say I get it if the asking price is too high for current contributors, but then why not take advantage of the sellers' market and trade some pitching?

Hard to feel any way about someone who was barely part of the team this year but I thought it might be worth holding onto him having two guys in the rotation whose pitch counts are being closely watched.

Seems like a fine guy to take a flyer on. He's hit in the minors. Probably just be depth in Nashville.

I would have been fine moving Quintana or Cortes, and they just moved Cortes. But they're gonna need all the cost controlled pitching they have once Woody, Quintana, and Peralta are gone this winter.

Lockridge seems very Brewers-y. Very fast and good defensively
