I wouldn't target any position players before getting another high-leverage guy for the bullpen. But if we are going to upgrade positionally I would love to have Kwan leading off.

But I think it's a real missed opportunity if they don't more.

Through almost 10 years, this FO has never given any indication of wanting to trade valuable pieces for rentals that can only change their odds insignificantly in their models and there's no reason to think that would change this year. They'll be looking for multi-year guys or bargains.

Agreed. But that's why I also thought we might make a "baseball" type trade where we move Wagner/Loperfido for a relief pitcher with term.

I hope they get past their models because there's no way their models predicted the way the Jays have performed so far. Go get some talent.

This is the front office that pulls dominating starting pitchers after 3 innings of playoff games because their models tell them that they'll struggle more 2nd time through the order. They'll never give them up and no hot streak will change that.

My guess is this means they plan to replace that roster spot.

Hopefully. This is such an underwhelming move that Passan hasn't even posted about it.

From Rosenthal for the Athletic:

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to talk to the Minnesota Twins about reliever Griffin Jax and the Cleveland Guardians about outfielder Steven Kwan, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

Neither player is seen as particularly likely to be traded. The Los Angeles Dodgers also are talking to the Guardians about Kwan, but consider a trade for him a longshot.

Earlier in the day, a Twins official acknowledged increased activity on Jax, but expressed skepticism a team would meet the threshold necessary to acquire him.

Better not to guess with this FO. For now, they just got worse in 2025.

Definitely an odd trade. I liked Wagner.

I liked him too but the more I watched him the more I had questions about his upside. Not a good athlete, no power and not a good defender. In a perfect world he'd be a leadoff hitter but he's slow. Wish him the best.

I don’t get it. Wasn’t Wagner actually showing signs of improvement?

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
