Didn’t realize he was that **** I remember he was an allstar years ago. So underwhelming. Thought a first place team would be hitting homers at the deadline. But I guess it’s fitting that we’re just going for singles.

Detroit, Houston, Mets, Milwaukee, and Dodgers are the first place teams
.
I believe only the Mets really did much, most of the others worked around the fringes like us … could be wrong though as I haven’t seeing any of the moves that have come in since 5:50 other than ours. So may have missed something big.

they do have varsho/springer back and kirk soon enough too. and maybe santander as well sometime in august or sept.

it's gonna be on the team to keep playing like they did in june/july and they can certainly do it or at least keep their head above water.

Also Gimenez is close to returning.

Anyone could have signed him in the off-season, and the Twins signed him for a million bucks. When it is all said and done, Yankees will be leading the AL East. Very impressed what they did at the deadline today.

Better bullpen, starting pitch and offense on paper than the Jays. Everyone goes through a rough patch, and when Judge comes back next week- I expect the Yankees to take off. Disappointed overall with the Jays moves. The moves were okay, but I wish they could have made a bigger splash. Bednar went for a very reasonable price to New York. Other guys also that they could have targeted.

I mean I'm not impressed if this was our prized bat, but it's much less awful than us letting go of Wagner and leaving that spot open. End of the day I think France fits better than Wagner so I don't mind getting him, especially when I thought the deadline was already over & we just dilly dallied.

I can't imagine they think Ty France is the big RH bat. I suspect they are counting on Santander for that.

Yeah, he's basically a break the glass option and they wanted another right handed bat that role with so many left handed hitters on the team. I think he was just a throw in basically, not someone that was targeted.

Any chance of Manoah coming back and contributing this season?

Honestly i think the jays did pretty good. Def a B+ from me. They got priorities of pitching both SL and relievers while not depleting ur farm.

Playoffs are a crap shoot u cant leverage urself especially with us being older team and pending free agents like Bo.

Also might get Manoah back. Anyway pen is better, Beiber if he gets all the way back makes rotation better and deeper.

Let's hope Popkins can help France rediscover his swing, he used to be a damn good hitter.

So who is going to get sent down for outfielders?

Davis or Loper?

Loperfido would go long before Davis, they lack RHBs

True. And he was behind Loperfido at this point.

I think he’s a fringe platoon outfielder in the bigs at best, like a Reed Johnson from the left side. Not very valuable.

France was probably more of a throw in than anything as the Jays at least wanted a RHB as an option to bat #6-#9 vs left handers if they couldn't find more of a core lineup piece. They didn't seem to have anything realistic at the AAA level for that. As a throw in, I'll take it, for new he fits a small role

He could also stink for two or 3 weeks in his limited playing time, and be a quick release like Paul DeJong.

Pretty upsetting that we couldn't acquire a single big name (Bieber doesn't count), given that we're in contention.

Agreee I thought for sure we’d go after a big name. We struck out on all of them. All of the rivals got them. Freaks me out. Reminds me of 2015 when the blue jays were only 500 but went all in for tulo and price and then leapfrogged the Yankees for number 1.

Now we’re number 1 but all the teams under us like Yankees and mariners made heavy moves and now look better

Blair and Barker had David Price on the show this afternoon. Reliving the trade, his famous drive from Detroit to Toronto, his Rogers center debut with the crowd going crazy. He went 9-1 with about 2.30 ERA. Jays went from a few games back to running away with the pennant. Price was affable and well spoken, loved the Jays and the fans and the city (I know, he left, but sounded sincere. )

I still remember the excitement of that deadline, and that team. Blair said something I'd forgotten about, he opined that if Brett Cecil didn't get hurt that team would have won the WS.

Alcides still hits .500 against us even with Cecil, the 2015 Royals had devil magic

Yup. People are forgetting that we only really started seeing success with our farm this year with prospects taking a step forward. We didn't have the depth that some of these other teams had to make the overpay trades. The fact we were able to to make some decent adds without losing too much talent off the top of the farm is a good accomplishment.

His Statcast numbers suggest he might have been getting a bit unlucky this year. I guess we’ll see.

Yankees’ acquisition of Slater would have made far more sense for this team imo

If manoah comes back I’m guessing he’s in the bullpen?

With the way Loperfido has performed this month overall with his very good offensive numbers- he is my everyday LF. Schneider has sucked hitting Righties and Lefties this past month. He can pack his bags back to Buffalo. All hype because of his one great month in 2023. He sucked last year also, and is terrible again in all of July.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
