seeing this they are probably trying to extend Mitch around 15 MM per. That would give them a little wiggle under the 2nd apron.

I don't know. Looking at that chart it seems like the Knicks would be $18.6M under the 2nd apron for just 8 players not including Dadiet's team option or their possible 2026 1st round pick. If the Knicks want to continue to operate under the 2nd apron next year Mitch might need to sign at closer to $10M or less in the first year of his contract if they want to be able to fill out the rest of the roster. Even then players 9-14,15 may all be vet mins/rookie vet mins.

I wonder if they would entertain trading Mitch for a cheaper more reliable replacement if they can't come to an agreement this year or if they are willing to go over the 2nd apron next year.

Definitely they will. That’s how they operate. Guys like Quickley and Randle weren’t willing to take what the team offered so they got moved.

I expect the same with Mitch. He’s a bit hard to evaluate too, because he’s kinda injury prone. But, I really do like him and if he’s given this off-season to get healthy, he’s gonna kill it next year.

At least he took some sort of discount. But it's still a massive bag we gave him. He needs to fix his 3 point shot. That broken shot is on him, no one else. 33% from 3 in the playoffs is unacceptable. And passing up layups for contested middies. He has quite the work to do to live up to his contract.

Giannis to the Knicks was pretty remote. Too many other teams have the picks to include a deal IF he ever decides to leave.

37.5 is not much these days. Especially for an impact player with all-star potential. He's making less than OG

Mitch's expiring deal might be useful in a mid-season trade too and there are health concerns. There's a few ways it could work out.

If they wait for Mitch's contract to expire, I think they could offer him 5 years, and maybe he'd take a paycut per year with 5 years guaranteed. But I'm just pondering possibilities.

Having a new coach, a new style, a healthy mitch and a few kids who are potentially interesting is making me look forward to this season. Last year they had talent, but it never felt like they took off, getting crushed in the regular season by the top teams and 51 wins is good, but not elite.

I don't know if they're a title team yet, but I think they're a step closer, and with Boston & Indy taking a step or two back. They have a pretty good shot.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

Atlanta would beat our ass if Giannis ever became available. They have the best pick on the market (including the Bucks pick), Jalen Johnson and some other great pieces.

Big fan of Machine Mikal!

Cant he still be traded on Jan 31st? I bet Gianis wants to see how well the Bucks play anyway, before demanding a trade.

He seems like a guy where a coaching change could make the biggest difference. He just felt a little out of rhythm with the team last year.

It's a slim chance but i would never say never. Pretty much all of our trades lately seemed unrealistic. Getting the Nets to trade us Mikal, trading Randle right before training camp, trading RJ right after his extension, etc. Knicks seem to find a way by any means and I think that's a big reason why there's always going to be rumors regarding Giannis and the Knicks imo.

Giannis being loyal :nonono: Knicks was waiting for him.
The New York Knicks got intel that Giannis Antetokounmpo won’t request a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks before signing Mikal Bridges to an extension, an NBA source told Hoops Wire on Thursday.

The Knicks are signing Bridges to a four-year, $150 million contract extension, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.

Mikal Bridges’ new deal includes a player option for the 2029-30 season. The small forward, who has a trade kicker now, is ineligible to be traded for six months.

The Knicks would have pursued Giannis Antetokounmpo had the two-time MVP requested a trade from the Bucks. All signs point toward Antetokounmpo remaining in Milwaukee.
