Crazy stuff

How that twitter user knew Beasley was involved before anyone else in January is suspicious as hell.

My suspicion is that teams know what's going on with Beasley. They know he's not coming back.

I could be totally wrong on that, but this feels like a situation where folks are in the know about what's going on, even if the public aren't fully clued in.

Yeah, Terry Rozier has been under federal investigation for gambling all through the porter investigation and ban. The team and league still let him keep playing. The fact that nobody has signed beasley even though he hasn't been charged with anything is definitely a huge red flag.

Of course, I don't think we actually renounced him, right? He wasn't making a ton, but we'll be one of the only teams that could offer more than the vet min if he is cleared. Seems pretty unlikely though.

It's the interwebs so I want to be careful about jumping to conclusions, but this is what I've gathered so far...

A year ago, around the time Jontay Porter was banned, somebody put Beasleys name out there. It turns out that person was a relative of somebody directly involved in the Porter situation. This sure makes it look like the two players (Porter & Beasley) are connected through this 3rd party, which is still under Federal investigation.

IF that is all accurate, then it surely does *not* look good for Beasley. It *looks* like an expansion of the same investigation which lead to Porters lifetime ban from the NBA. I have absolutely no clue what organization knows what or when they knew anything, but based on what little we do know I wouldn't expect anybody to touch him until he's 100% cleared & vindicated. Fair or not that is a risk that nobody wants to take.

What countries have professional basketball leagues but don't have extradition treaties with the U.S.?
A buddy of mine may need to shimmy off somewhere...

China and Russia don't.
But I hope he's innocent and comes back to Detroit (very unlikely), or another team.

Hanging around bad people is not a crime, so if that’s all he did he might make a comeback.

But his actions seem to appear he’s guilty. If you were totally innocent, wouldn’t you be losing your mind right now, complaining on how you’re being treated and loss of a big contract?

One other possibility is he didn’t do too much, and he gets offered a deal.

In this scenario, while he may get offered a deal by the FBI, that would require some admission of guilt. In turn, his NBA career would certainly be over. Any admission of guilt by Beasley would be an automatic lifetime ban. The league absolutely can't associate themselves with a player that has been involved with gambling on NBA games, let alone a guy that may have been directly or indirectly effecting the integrity of games.

Read on Twitter

So 'when' we bring back Beasley :P , we use bird rights so he gets $7.1million next year. Would we sign him to a longer contract so then his next contract can be advantageous to him? Or just the 1 yr deal works to make his next contract he signs with us nice? Does that make sense?

Beasley could be innocent, but these investigations tend to drag on regardless. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see a quick outcome here.

I guess what I mean is, if he wants to get paid in the future, similar to the 3 yr MLE contract he was going to make. If we only give him a 1 yr deal, can we give him a bigger contract next summer? Or would we have to use the MLE to do that. Just hypothetically speaking.
Or would we have to sign him to a longer contract with options to then give him a bigger deal. Again, just curious how the bird rights work and all that.
Because I would think that Tobias would get our MLE next summer maybe.

Tobias we will have early bird rights on so we can sign him for pretty much any amount we want without using our MLE on him. It allows us to sign him for a new deal up to 175% of his previous deal. No way he gets more money than his previous deal even if this season goes really well with no signs of him slowing down I think the most we give him is another 2 years $50 million.

Old news now but per Pat Beverly/Hoopshype:

https://www.hoopshype.com/story/sports/nba/rumors/2025/08/01/patrick-beverley-malik-beasley-thinks-hes-going-to-be-on-an-nba-roster-next-season/85471035007/

“Patrick Beverley: I’m in Paris though, after Monaco. I’m in Paris, eating at the restaurant and a guy tapped me like, “Malik Beasley’s downstairs.” I’m like, “Who?” “Yeah, Malik Beasley. Old team.” “Oh… Michael Beasley?” “No no no. Malik Beasley. Pistons.” “Oh okay.” So I see him downstairs and I’m kind of hesitant too. I’m like, “Damn, you hot right now, man. You got feds on you and everything.” But man, he was in good spirits. He was in real good spirits. I was able to chop it up with him. His mouth, his demeanor—seems like he’s in a good place. He’s confident. He seems like he’s going to be on a roster next season. Hey, I’m telling you what he felt. I’m not telling you what the truth is.“

Guess this may be Pat Bevs words but the “seems like he’s gonna be on A ROSTER part” scares the life out of me.

We know Beasley is an overly confident guy, and maybe he meant it as Detroit…but imagining a team like Orlando or New York scooping him up is a nightmare.

(…And please miss me with the “wE’re FiNe wE haVe DuNcAN rObinsOn and LeVeRT!” crowd…just pray for Beasley to make the right decision this time)

Let's get solid evidence that he's actually going to play for SOMEONE before panicking over the thought of losing him. Or maybe just not do that at all.

The Pistons still have his non-Bird rights, so they could offer him up to $7.2m if he's cleared, then something in the realm of $15m next season (depending on the Estimated Average Salary) via Early Bird.

But that's a big, big, big if.

IF he gets cleared then yeah bring him back.

No one else has the ability to pay him 7.2 anyway and we'd do it cause he definitely is valuable to us. In more ways than just shooting 3s.

That said I have a million questions about his life choices now than I did before he arrived but I'm bigger on mindset and character issues than most.

You can teach any idiot to shoot 3s or dribble or rebound. You can't teach the want for it.

Ben Wallace being the prime example.

Zero talent apparently. Yeah? Cool! **** you! I'll do it anyway.

Give me 15 dudes with his mindset
