If they can offload those two deals, a combined $13M, they could drop below the second apron, which would then allow them to legally execute a simply sign him to a new contract in the $22–25M range or atleast do a S&T.

Nets and Pistons both can give Grimes a $22-25M contract he wants but I’d guess both teams aren’t too interested in Grimes and expect Sixers to match and they would rather focus on other FAs instead.

So my bet here is Grimes gets his $22M contract and we offload Oubre and Drummond. While for our rotation, Watford replaces Oubre and Bona with Broome as back-up replaces Drummond.

I will believe that Josh will pay tax this year when I see it.

I actually deleted the post after reviewing the list, it looks like no one has signed for the full NTMLE yet, which makes a $22–25M contract for Grimes feel like an overpay. Before I checked, I was convinced he might be worth that range, especially considering how valuable a scorer like him could be next to Embiid given his health concerns.

As for your post, I agree.. it’s tough to justify paying the tax when the team is in such limbo. The most sensible move, in my view, is to shed Oubre and Drummond’s contracts. Watford and Walker can step into Oubre’s role, while Bona and Broome can take over for Drummond. That path keeps us flexible to deal with Grimes this upcoming season.

It's difficult to reconcile signing Grimes and staying out of the tax.

Unless Grimes takes his QO.

Pretty excited, and curious for what next season looks like. For once not going into it with the strain of championship aspirations. We have some young players that should be exciting to track.

Potentially another leap from Maxey. Year two of Jared McCain, hopefully he's fit and moving well. A #3 overall pick on our roster with huge personality and an explosive playstyle.

Also year two for Bona and Justin Edwards, hopefully one or both start to really establish themselves as prominent NBA players.

They might be nothing but I like the swings on 24 year old Watford, 6'9 F with some passing, rebounding and ball handling, hopefully he breaks into the rotation.

Also the swing on 23 year old 6'9 F Jabari Walker.

More(y) margins. Trending up in most metrics, just posted 60% TS +4.5 on/off with POR, shot 38.9% from 3 but just .31 3Pr / 72 total 3PA, so some variance. Basically the best you can get with a two-way but I love the attempts at chasing upside again.

Image

Hopefully a settlement with Q Grimes soon, and then anything if at all you can get from either of Joel Embiid or Paul George is a cherry on top.

Reading a lot of negativity from our fans lately, but truly one of the more fascinating seasons for me in a while with a lot to look forward to.

I'm excited to see the young guys get a chance to gel as a unit, and really excited to watch VJ's growth. Hopefully we find some diamonds in the rough with Walker and Watford, and Bona and Edwards take that proverbial next step.

I'm not excited at all to see George other than the chance of pumping and dumping him at some point, either at the deadline or next off season. It would be amazing to get a reborn Joel, one who is ready to make the adjustments necessary to be an asset over the next 2-3 years if he is healthy as a complimentary player. Not holding my breath on that, though.

ProcessDoctor wrote:Here's a list of forwards making ~$15 or less next season we could target by using some combo of Oubre/Drummond/Gordon/pick(s):

Finney-Smith (player option)
Jonathan Isaac
Deni Avdija
Obi Toppin
PJ Washington
Herb Jones
Grant Williams (coming off injury)
Bobby Portis (player option)
Brandon Clarke
Jabari Smith
Jarred Vanderbilt
Maxi Kleber
Kyle Anderson
Jalen Smith

In looking back at this list, even if there's a move later on around the deadline... it's a surprisingly small list. Especially once you filter out the players who battle injuries often (we have enough of those) or are highly valued by their team. You're basically left with:

  • PJ Washington
  • Kyle Anderson
  • Jalen Smith

What do you think the Bulls would want for Jalen Smith? And can he play the 4 or is he strictly a backup 5 ?

Stay away from Jalen Smith. He’s the PF version of Mo Bamba.

Thank god we have McCain and Edgecombe to save us from this upcoming season. If Embiid and PG are completely fried and we missed that pick, it'd be sad times around here.

seriously man. This team knows how to keep the hits coming. I know it's not really his fault but Embiid is finishing his career out like a sucka.

Completely agreed.

This may be the wrong thread for it, but I'll ask anyway. Let's assume the following things:
  • Embiid is unhealthy the majority of the season.
  • George is in and out of the lineup and merely looks slightly washed, but not abysmal.
  • The Sixers, with no real reason to tank (top 4 protection), genuinely try to win, while developing the younger guys.

What's your expectation for how they finish?

Maxey, Grimes, PG, McCain, Edwards, Oubre, Bona, Edgecombe, Watford, Walker...

Should be enough to get to the playoffs in the East, but all depends on health. A ton of firepower on offense between Grimes, Maxey, McCain, Edgecombe and George. The Bucks, Knicks, and Cavs will give us matchup issues due to size, but the rest of the East seems doable.

Im hoping they can speed up the offense and try to outrun the opponent. They will still struggle in the halfcourt unless maxey or mccain take a step forward as playmakers. I just dont trust the frontcourt not enough size , rim protection or rebounding
