I mentioned I don’t want it to be Moody, which would change everything.

But Buddy is becoming a bit overrated. Kerr relied on him like crazy because we had no shooting at all… and he lost alot of games for us in the same way Klay did the previous couple years.

I think Monk is a better player to be the scorer for the 2nd unit than Kuminga has ever been,
since he can handle the ball and get other people open as well. Then Buddy’s shooting is just replaced by committee by signing FA’s that can space the floor like Horford, Morris, Melton, Seth, Boucher etc.

Steph / Morris / Seth
Podz / Monk / Melton
Jimmy / Moody
Dray / Boucher / Santos
Horford / Post / Trayce

Doubt all those guards will sign with us to compete for minutes, but something like that is a really good team.

Monk is 52% efg and 55% TS for his career. His career highs are similar to JK's 4 year averages. Monk's career avgs are career lows for JK, on very similar usage numbers. AND I LIKE monk. If we traded Buddy + filler, I'd be fine with this. Moody + filler? Also, kinda fine. But that would require Monk to make 10-12M, not 19M.

Buddy's shooting is elite and does things to defenses that a committee just won't do. He's also on only a 3M guarantee next season. Monk has 3/60 with a PO left.

If we have Steph, Monk, Podz, & Moody will Melton really sign here? Maybe Seth but is that what we want? JK, Buddy, Melton, Seth or Monk & Seth? There has to be another shoe to drop.

Yep. A deal bringing Monk here would have to include another move to balance the roster - immediately.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

Ellis would be incredible, I just don’t think he’s available.

Heck, take the pick out and just send us Monk/Ellis for Kuminga/Buddy. But again, I don’t think thats even an option.

Would be crazy if we added a 1st and they said no. They wouldn't take 2 1sts (their own and our 1st) for Ellis who will be ufa?

There is zero case we are trading Buddy for Monk...especially we have no three point shooters on the roster. King's offer is laughable.

This team finally has the shooting to make a number of lineups work with JK, only to trade him for another combo guard with suspect defense and streaky offense. Discarding Buddy or Moody to do so is asinine.

What I said is that I wonder if GSW is angling for the unprotected first as a means of getting another player that will help.

In other words - the Sac deal is just a deal to set up the deal.

I'm not predicting, just wondering out loud. Maybe that's why things are more on hold with vet minimum level FAs than necessary at face value.

Please let there be some other team who is willing to beat the Kings' offer and Kuminga would sign with them ... this just can't the entire outcome of spending Kuminga as an asset ...

This. I wonder which team they can reroute Monk, and who would be the return? After losing Hield for whatever asset the 3rd team requires. Sheesh.

If they could move monk, they would have already.

It's the same reason the celtics are stuck with simons. They got him, tried to flip him. No one wanted him.

This is a mindblowingly bad deal. Not even the bulls wanted monk. Let that sink in.

We are basically giving kuminga away, taking a pick for eating a long negative contract, then having to ship out a pick with heild or moody (because we cant take salary back).

If I understand this correctly.

Comical.

Um, Curry.
Maybe 2 guys named Curry (Stephen and Seth).
Post.
Horford (coming).
Melton (coming).
Moody.
Podz is decent.

While I agree that I don’t want to give up Hield (or Moody….. or anybody) to get Monk, it is classically hilarious to suggest there are no 3-point shooters on the Warriors. One pivot I am seeing them take this off-season is specifically to help their 3-point shooting by going after Horford and Melton, replacing 2 non-shooters in Looney and (IMO) GP2. (I think GP2 isn’t coming back, but that could be wrong.)

I also don’t mind bringing in Monk and then some more FA guards because Podz can be bumped up to SF alot and Moody can be bumped up to PF alot.

We are going to be a much better shooting team next year, even without Buddy, if we made solid FA pickups.

Yeah. Let's make the team even more guard lopsided. Sounds like an effing plan. Apparently, the effing lunatics are in charge of the asylum.

Fanspo says it works Monk + Carter for JK + buddy. Dont have to send buddy somewhere else. So we're getting a 1st to eat Monk's contract. Which is crazy 2030? Yea that has to be unprotected.

It's funny that I think of Monk as a shooter, but his 3 point shooting is terrible. I'm assuming that improves because of the Steph effect but damn he's like Wiggins shooting.

We had Pat Spencer playing playoff minutes last year. We have nobody to guard other point guards. We have literally no backup PGs on the roster.

If Horford is in fact a done deal, good guards are absolutely what we need to add most.

Yea I don't get why people think we don't need guards and then complain why podz plays so many minutes. We absolutely need guards and a poa defender.

Podz was hurt most of last year. By adding more guards, you're not accomplishing anything other than holding back his development. Meanwhile, the team isn't going to have $hit in the way of wings. On those nights when Butler inevitably sits, who the eff are you going to run out there? :banghead:

They aren't close when it comes to 3 pt shooting. Even wiggins worst season shooting as warrior tops monks best season shooting as a king.

The team needs actual wings.

Guys who can guard 2-4.
Not used to be wings who play 4 now.
Not guards that have to play wing.
An actual wing who can shoot which is something every contender seems to have multiples of.

We have moody. That's it.

4 guards to play 2 positions seems like the right number. Especially when Melton is likely to get hurt.

Moody. Guess you don't want him to develop?

Sad but true. The "He's only 5 feet tall but he's got a 7 foot wingspan!" argument is wearing thin.

He really did have terrible efficiency on the kings. But he would likely be playing more of the role like he had on the lakers where he shot much better.

Some thoughts from a credentialed Suns person. He does mention that the Suns don't have 4 2nds but expects there's another trade that can happen to get the 2nd(s).

Return to Golden State Warriors
