How long was it before the NBA and NFL were profitable?

Two reasons:

1) The NBA is EXTREMELY profitable
2) There will be protesters outside of Silver's house with pitchforks looking for blood.

Man, I don't bet on sports but I was just looking at win total odds on Draft Kings and the Raptors projected win total is 32.5 ... That seems like an easy over. The East is so weak and the Raps have a bunch of guys ready to step up and turn the corner.

I'd be shocked if Raptors do not win more than 33 games. I'm not going to bet on it, I don't even have a sportsbook account, but that seems like a really likely occurence. So I'm making the call here on the forum so that when Toronto goes 42-40 or whatever, I can come back and gloat, lol

Dangit.. I was once a gambler on sports. almost gave me a heart attack twice. Managed to stay away for about 5 years.. and now you post this and you awakened the Frankenstein monster.

That does seem like a good bet.

This alone makes the league a clear financial success and a wise long term investment. Even as they've "lost" money, they've gained fans for the sport itself which can only pay off going forward. Total franchise value is now estimated to be $3.5 billion.

According to The Athletic, the WNBA has a good chance to make a profit in 2026 when their new media deal kicks in.

Their historic average annual loss is around $10 million. That $280 million investment has turned into billions of dollars with an increasingly positive forward trajectory. The owners have been rewarded for their patience. Any business that shut it down would have made a terrible error.

I don’t think that is true. Most businesses start of unprofitable, even huge publicly traded companies. What’s important is that there is a path to profitability.
I don’t know the details of this situation at all, but just because there is t a profit turned is not a reason to shut something down.

Over 50% isn't just partial ownership. It's the majority stakeholder.

This all started with an innocent joke I made. People got all up in a tizzy. People went waaaaay overboard with one line I typed. I have an 11 year old daughter who plays multiple sports, so believe me I know what it takes to be a supportive parent. I have a son who plays college golf. Support is all around. I have a sense of humor that some take very serious I guess.

Edit** I also have a 9 year old daughter who's obsessed with etsy

How far is the WNBA into their season? When does the next one start? I know I said this in the past but I really do want to get back into watching more of their games, but I want a fresh season and a team to follow.

I like Aja, any game I catch or highlights I really enjoy, and of course I saw them win a couple. Do I wanna follow the aces though? I don’t know.

I don’t watch as many sports as I used to. I used to watch everything except NASCAR (NEVER) and hockey (except big events), and soccer (big events occasionally). I love watching athletes, it’s always amazing to me. I really only watch NBA and NFL these days and catch few other things here and there. I think I could get back into the WNBA again. I want to give it a full season and fair shake.

I don’t want to follow a sucky franchise though, need a team with a good culture. They don’t have to be champs, but they need to look like they are heading in the right direction, and when they make don’t win, they look like they make moves to eventually get there. I like when players get chances to grow, don’t want to see a new team every season. The team doesn’t have to have a superstar, but it should have players that look like they can grow into being something, I need hope!

Edit/SN: I really use to watch everything. I remember loving curling but I never bothered to learn the rules and I didn’t get into following it because of the times it came on. Late or early asl!

If you watched a replay of a girls high school basketball championship game and any WNBA game with the team names on the score ticker blacked out, you couldn't tell the difference.

And I'm not trying to disrespect girls high school basketball either.

The video if the WNBA "stars" getting the "who are you" treatment outside that lounge during all star week was also pretty entertaining.
