2025 Playoff Chase & Standings Watch

Post#1 » by SharoneWright » Sat Aug 2, 2025 5:02 am

It’s August, and the playoff chase is upon us!

Do we bring home the AL East pennant this year!?!

Yankees implode tonight! The Mariners walk it off in the 9th! Drama everywhere!

3.5 games up on the Yanks and 4.0 on the Red Sox.

Here’s a thread for the scoreboard watching!
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

3 numbers I am looking at

Lead for First Round Bye (1.5 over Houston)
AL East Lead - 3.5 (New York)
Lead for Final Playoff Spot - 7.0 (Texas)

At some point somebody on the coaching staff has to be responsible for the Yankees. Their defense and lack of awareness is offsetting all the talent they have on the roster

So the Yankees lost again. Looking like they’re going to be in 3rd place at the end of today.

Judge is coming back in a few days. They are missing him bad.

When he gets back he will DH, which screws them elsewhere because then what do you do with Stanton? The guy basically can't run at all. So do you sit him, or do you play him in the field and get pummeled on anything hit his way?

He has a slower sprint speed than Kirk.

I read a couple of days ago Stanton was practicing his outfield drills with Judge, in RF. The hope is Judge will DH for 10 days or so, and then resume his RF duties with Stanton back at DH. But you never know how things play out with injuries.

Judge might need a longer time period to resume throwing. I agree, Stanton in RF will not end well. He has not played in the outfield for two years. I can see Stanton playing occasionally in RF, but going to the bench when Judge comes back as DH.

Watch out for Boston. They are winning and winning against good teams, too. Who would have thought after trading Devers they would be this good. Going to be fun watching this race. It's going to be close. Hopefully we end up at the top.

Exactly 50 games to go. Given that 5 games above .500 would have you in the playoffs right now, I think 86-76 probably gets you in the AL playoffs.. (that would be 22-28 down the stretch). Obviously we should aim higher.

After today 21 of our next 27 games are against NL teams. In that stretch

The Awful - Rockies, Pirates, Twins
The OK - Marlins
Chasing a Wildcard - Reds, Rangers
Good NL Teams - Dodgers, Cubs, Brewers,

We need to take care of those 9 games against bad teams.

Boston swept Houston. Move 3 games back. Watch out!
