The majority of titles have been won by teams with superstars. There's a small group of teams that have won without superstars... Tatum hasn't proven to be a superstar yet. Hopefully he does in the future...
How do you define superstar? Tatum has been a first team all NBA guy for 4 seasons. Top 6 in MVP voting for 4 seasons. If he isn’t a superstar he is damn close. How he is after recovery of course remains to be seen.
A guy who is really good in the Finals.
ESPN pulled the Superman ad when JT tore his achilles.
A superstar is also about marketability.
JT has lots of endorsement deals and multiple commercials on TV.
If your definition of superstar is someone who is really good in the finals then that's your opinion.
So many players inducted into the Hall Of Fame are considered superstars but have not played in the finals.
If JT is not a superstar then the #0 jersey of Tatum should not be in the top 5 in jersey sales.
JT was not efficient shooting the ball in the finals, but he led the team in ppg, rpg, and apg.
That's something only guys like Bird, Olajuwon, and other superstars are capable of.
