I'm okay paying 40m for Herro starting in 2028' based off of what we've seen from him last season. For many games throughout the year he was the best player on the floor (for both teams) and I think he will only continue to get better. He's 25 right now and is an all-star. He may never become a bonafide 1A on a championship level team but those guys also don't get paid as 'little' as 40m / year.

40m a year in today's salary would be what you pay for a 2nd option. In 2027-2028 that would probably be a steal.

Remember, most of ya'll were upset that we gave Herro a 30m contract extension 3 years ago (even though it didn't actually kick in until this past season) - and that number (30m) right now is an absolute steal.

Meh I’d say 30-35 is what is he’s worth NOW

The 60th highest NBA player was paid 29m last season (Isaiah Hartenstien). The 44th highest NBA player was paid 35m (Jalen Suggs).

I'd say Herro is comfortably a top 35 player in the NBA. His current contract is above value imo.

How long are the Warriors going to continue to drag this Kuminga saga out. Feel like we have a deal in place already that brings back DeRozan once Kuminga is given the starting SF spot over there.

An absolute steal? He has had one above average season so far in that contract and he just got made a bitch by Ty Jerome.

He is not a top 50 player in the league

That may be the right deal. Any 20 pt scorer starts at 40 mill now

Just curious What are some similar examples of Herro’s archetype getting paid that much? Teams seem to be trying their hardest to get rid of those type of players (high volume shots/no defense) around the league

CJ McCollum:

17/18: 24.18%
18/19: 25.29%
19/20: 25.25%
20/21: 26.9%
21/22: 27.46%
22/23: 26.96%
23/24: 26.32%
24/25: 23.71%

CJ has always been the go-to comp for Herro, and at this point, you could argue Herro might already be better than peak CJ.

Herro’s max starts at 26% of the cap (that’s the actual number in the contract, not just a raw dollar amount), which is basically the same range CJ spent most of his career in. Right now, Herro’s at 20%, and a raise is reasonable, he’s done what’s been asked of him. There’s not a huge gap between 20% and 26%.

The real question is: do they think locking him in now at ~26% is safer than risking him making another All-Star team, or even All-NBA and then asking for 30% or 35% next year? That might be more costly down the line

There is a relatively low risk of the deal becoming hard to move, at worst he becomes a salary to match for a better player down the line

I like Tyler in and around 40 million dollars on a long term extension

I wouldn’t be upset about that

Give Tyler a blank check and tell him to take however much he wants. Best SG in Heat history is about to add best PG in Heat history to his resume this season too

Nah it’s not smart business and you’re tying yourself down to a player long term that doesn’t move the needle much. I’d argue we’d be in about the same position if hypothetically we were to move him for picks

Can probably let the Luka dream die now.

Luka and Bam now have almost identical contracts:
Bam/Luka:
25-26: $37,096,620/$45,999,660
26-27: $51,935,268/$51,033,510
27-28: $56,090,089/$55,116,191
28-29: $60,244,910/$59,198,872 (PO)

Bam is 1.5 years older.

I'd like to think that with player options and leverage, if the Lakers suck, then Luka can start hinting at leaving and trade requests in 27-28 or even earlier, but that is equally applicable to Bam.

If last season Tyler was playing next to a superstar, he would get 50M easy as a second option.

If the team was winning and there were a star 1A guy then yeah. As it stands he hasn’t proved he could be that guy yet

I really hope we max out the supposed 2nd option that needs to dominate the ball and be the 1st option in order to justify being on the court.

Is that font green enough?
