I don't believe it is available for ios, unfortunately. Brave exists. On a desktop browser, I found that Privacy Badger solved a lot of the problems I was having with RGM and similar sites.

no idea if it's available on iOS as I haven't had an apple device since the iPhone 4, but ...

Firefox+uBlock Origin

haven't seen ads on this site in years... or really anywhere else apart from the native youtube apps. can't imagine attempting to browse the internet without them

I’ve had iPhones since the 1 and I have no idea how to use an android, I almost switched this past month because I was intrigued by the pixel but I just couldn’t figure it out and got frustrated easily lol. I will say the typing was v nice on it though.

Recently I've been listening to a podcast called Arcane Carolinas after reading that they did an episode on local bad driving legend STAYUMBL/JESUSDOS. The hosts fancy themselves as a sort of X-Files of the Carolinas. The last ep I listened to (#15-To the Skies) taught me that Myrtle Beach/Horry Co is a hotbed for UFO (UAP?) sightings and I thought that would please the board if it wasn't already common knowledge. LaMelo seems pretty into alien imagery, maybe MB really can be a selling point!

In my late teens/early 20s my friends and I went to the Devil's Tramping Ground. There was a pretty big circle of sterile ground surrounded by forest, but also littered with trash and an old fridge, so that part was a bit of a buzzkill. To be fair to the legend, we didn't stick around until morning, so maybe it would've been cleared out by then (though I have my doubts). I'd love to observe the Brown Mountain Lights, the folklore surrounding that has interested me since childhood. Anyway, there are a lot of Carolinians on the board, does anyone have any anecdotes regarding the many local myths and phenomena?

Always wanted to hit Brown Mountain but never did. Did see a UFO with my brother in New Smyrna Beach though - about 94'ish. We were stepping out of a Jeep to walk into the house we had rented - about 10PM or so - and saw an orange ball, kind of molten looking, traveling slowly south to north above the water - about 100 yards or so above and about 50 yards out. When it was almost in front of us - swoosh - immediately, like immediately, shot east out across the ocean and disappeared. Anywho - feel bad we weren't considered good enough to abduct.

The hosts' most likely explanation was admittedly mundane. They mentioned an astronomy professor from Costal Carolina that suspects what people are seeing is based on a couple of things. First, there IS an aerial test site at Sumpter. A lot of these crafts use lighting designs and colors that are different than commercial aircraft. He further explains that when you look at something in the ocean far away you are looking at it at a different angle/perspective than you would if you are looking up, so that with light refraction can create the perception of movement and shapes that isn't actually occurring.

They mentioned a site called NUFORC that tracks sightings (there do seem to be a lot) and pointed out that the first result you get when you google "myrtle beach ufo" is visitmyrtlebeach.com, so they aren't doing much to cover it up.

I didn't super pay attention bc UFOs aren't so much my jam, had to relisten to the part in question for the explanation. Adding to your list of Carolina oddities: Bath hoofprints (great bit of folklore "Take me a winner or take me to hell!"), Vampire beast of Bladenboro, Maco Light. I guess there are a few cryptids too: Lake Norman's "Normie", Knobby an Appalachian foothills 'squatch and the Wampus cat.

Bringing it into the film world, I learned from the pod that there is a guy in Hillsboro that built a life sized replica of the Myers house from Halloween, which is itself a real house that still exists in Pasadena.

Unrelated to Ufos but related to cool phenomenon seen off the coast of North Carolina. Back in April of 2012, i think, There was a massive tornado outbreak across the entire state of North Carolina. Maybe the biggest tornado outbreak in the history of the state. That same day I just happened to be driving with With my family from Charlotte to Topsail where we had rented a beach house for the week. We somehow missed all of the Tornadoes that were happening all around us but there was so much energy in the air that when the storm reached the coast there was a lightning storm off the coast that was unlike anything I've ever seen. It lasted for several hours with basically continuous lightning happening for almost two hours. All of the lightning was concentrated a couple of miles offshore. I remember seeing a Youtube video posted of it shortly after it happened. Taken from a similar vantage point somewhere in Surf City. But can't find it anymore. I'll keep looking.

I think a lightning strike came close to hitting my house a few years back. I still remember it because it felt like my heart had stopped for a quick second.

Crazy to think some people survive those strikes.

This guy allegedly survived 7 strikes: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/most-lightning-strikes-survived
Tragic that he could live through all of that but not heartbreak.

I was staying at Springmaid with my family when the Myrtle Beach tornado hit in 2001. I was in the shower, mom starts beating down the door, we run over to the parking garage (I'm still in a towel) and huddle in the staircase.

That was pretty cool

I know we get over optimistic about the Hornets on this board from time to time, but Idk if I have ever seen a fan base get more excited over the most mid to below average players as Panther fans.

Legit they signed Pat Jones, Tershawn Wharton, Christian Rozeboom and Bryan Brown who were all backup level players for their teams to be starters for the Panthers and they expect the defense to be above average. Also starting just bad players in Chau Smith Wade, Nick Scott, Demani Richardson and Mike Jackson.

That is 8 guys who probably wouldn't start on any playoff team last year who are going to be starting or a top 13 player on Panthers defense.

I just want Bryce to continue to progress this season.

Tom Dundon, the Hurricanes owner, just bought the Blazers.

So that's interesting.
