Ha, you said it. I refinished our kitchen cabinets yesterday. Something that needed to be done with everyone out of the house but in two years prior I
never got a large enough chunk of time. I decided to do it in one swoop rather than in pieces and I kind of regretted doing that because once it was done... empty nest. I am getting a lot of stuff done that I otherwise wouldn't though. I was a damn whirlwind this weekend.
I bagged it. Here are some pics. Its not super technical, though there are some unavoidable class3 sections, and if youre terrible at route finding like me some class4 with some exposure. Its a war. We did it car 2 car, which made it around 12 miles and 8k elevation. One of the hard parts of the climb is coming down the couloir, real hard, and looking over at longs pass which adds another 1.3k. Kinda feels a lil surreal that I got it. Its been a long time goal. Now I need to come up with a new one... glacier peak.
That's a hell of an accomplishment. Stuart is a beast. Looks like a perfect day for it too. I bet it was even kind of chilly at the top. Familiar with the scree climbs and from the looks of it there isn't a fun scree descent to do.
From what I gathered, the climbing isn't too tough in terms of grade but 23 pitches a
long way and likely loose rock as well. My buddy, who is an excellent climber, said his scariest experience was climbing Mt Washington in Oregon on a trip I was on where, on an easy pitch, a rock came loose under his feet before he set his first anchor. Fortunately he held on with his hands. Very unpredictable.
Climbing that rock - that looks like a LOT of exposure. I'm seeing estimates at about 5.10c for it, and that's if you can find the easiest route. Gnarly stuff.
Glacier would be amazing. Have you done Adams and the like? Back when I was doing more mountaineering stuff I went up Adams once and failed another time because my rented boots were so bad that I lost a toenail. Also, I got tired. I prefer rock travel though.
