I'm not defending mentality, but the lead-up to the threat where buzzardman was role playing as a 10-year-old version of himself and saying he wanted to have sex with mentality's actual child was way over the line and we should have stopped it before it got to that point.

In the time since you've retired (thanks for your service, old man  ) the mods seem to have taken a different approach to highly personal attacks on others. So maybe this kind of thing won't happen again. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the basketball talk, when there is any. I think the summer is a withdrawal process for us on this board, like going cold turkey from drugs is to drug addicts. The good news is, for the first time in like forever, I feel that a Knicks addiction isn't nearly as bad for our health as it used to be.

Sham and raja are gonna be disappointed you didnt share the details.

Im gonna try to bag Mount Stuart tomorrow.

That's a serious peak! Good luck and I'd love to see some pics. How technical does the hike up get?

My kayaking was just some BSing around town but we did hit some current on the way back. I mostly mentioned it to annoy said posters. My fam is out of town so I'm burning the candle at both ends for fun and house stuff.

I always love the idea of having the house to myself, and the freedom that comes with it more than the actualization of it. I end up missing em.

I bagged it. Here are some pics. Its not super technical, though there are some unavoidable class3 sections, and if youre terrible at route finding like me some class4 with some exposure. Its a war. We did it car 2 car, which made it around 12 miles and 8k elevation. One of the hard parts of the climb is coming down the couloir, real hard, and looking over at longs pass which adds another 1.3k. Kinda feels a lil surreal that I got it. Its been a long time goal. Now I need to come up with a new one... glacier peak.

Spoiler:
We went up the right Couloir then cut over the false summit staying just under the ridge line and scrambled to the top.
Image

Friend grinding up the couloir. For every step up you slide down a lil. Its around 4k elevation in less than 2 miles. Can kinda see longs pass in the background. Coming down this sht and seeing the pass you have to climb back up is disheartening.
Image

Balance rock. People actually rock climbing this bish. Insane. We actually ran into a couple guys who climbed the north face of Stuart. Takes 23 pitches. Cant even imagine.
Image

After the false summit. Route finding here was difficult.
Image

Was cool to finally be able to look over at the enchantments from the top of Stuart.

Ha, you said it. I refinished our kitchen cabinets yesterday. Something that needed to be done with everyone out of the house but in two years prior I never got a large enough chunk of time. I decided to do it in one swoop rather than in pieces and I kind of regretted doing that because once it was done... empty nest. I am getting a lot of stuff done that I otherwise wouldn't though. I was a damn whirlwind this weekend.

That's a hell of an accomplishment. Stuart is a beast. Looks like a perfect day for it too. I bet it was even kind of chilly at the top. Familiar with the scree climbs and from the looks of it there isn't a fun scree descent to do.

From what I gathered, the climbing isn't too tough in terms of grade but 23 pitches a long way and likely loose rock as well. My buddy, who is an excellent climber, said his scariest experience was climbing Mt Washington in Oregon on a trip I was on where, on an easy pitch, a rock came loose under his feet before he set his first anchor. Fortunately he held on with his hands. Very unpredictable.

Climbing that rock - that looks like a LOT of exposure. I'm seeing estimates at about 5.10c for it, and that's if you can find the easiest route. Gnarly stuff.

Glacier would be amazing. Have you done Adams and the like? Back when I was doing more mountaineering stuff I went up Adams once and failed another time because my rented boots were so bad that I lost a toenail. Also, I got tired. I prefer rock travel though.

I don't think that's exactly the way it happened, but I've said a lot of outrageous sh*t on here to piss people off, so maybe it's true. I generally try to forget what I posted about anything in 3 or less days, so anything is possible.

I HATE home projects - loath them. Id rather pay someone to do it than do that sht myself. I dont even get the sense of accomplishment when I finish them that most people do. Im just grateful its done. So refinishing cabinets is a helluva an accomplishment.

I haven't touched any of the volcanic peaks. I hiked up to camp Muir and I guess mt st helens counts. But none of the others. I dont have snow experience. Though my friend is now pushing for Adams. So we will see. I dont have any glacier or ice axe experience. The real turn off for me on some of those is I don't want to pay for an expedition and I also have kids to raise. So I "try" to limit risk.

It would be cool as hell to get Adams though. Might try it before the season ends.

St Helens absolutely counts and the South Climb of Adams ain't nothin' but a big St Helens. No real glacier issues - which are something that I, too, hate. It's just a **** bitch of a slog. If you can bag Stuart, you can totally do it.

Sunscreen often, including lip balm, because snow reflects the sun. Hats. Some sort of crampon - snowshoes or probably even yak tracks would suffice at this time of year. Watch a YouTube video for self arrest and practice using your ice ax for self arrest when you hit the snow off of the "lunch counter." Pointy end stoppy the slide. The icy snow is actually nice because you don't fall back like in scree.

Sooner the better because the glisade shoot melts and then you have to walk that 2000' of elevation. Plus you'll have the altitude adjustment from Stuart.

The soonest window we have to do it is the beginning of next month. So I need to read some reports on if thats possible or it will be too icy by then. I know some mountains get too icy in the later season, not sure about Adams. And honestly if missing out on glissading is the only issue with going then I dont mind. Sliding down a mountain on my ass always seems a lil sketchy. Though I could bring a garbage bag.

What time of the year did you bag it?

Right around nowish. Maybe a little earlier.

Depends on when you go and what the weather is but I'd think lack of snow might be an issue in early September. Late is anyone's guess but definitely icy. Definitely check what recent climbers are saying.
