Remains to be seen. Wemby is such a generational talent that there would be zero surprise to see him in a Lakers or Knicks jersey during his prime, especially after we've seen how shamelessly Luka was gifted to the Lakers.

The Knicks have never had a generational talent.

This contract makes me certain Trae Young will expect the max.

Why waste Wemby like this?

Had to read this a few times to make sure it was an actual Wemby quote and not an old tweet from when pretty much every player ever says **** like this at this stage of their career lol

Not saying Wemby will or won’t leave, but it’s silly to put stock into something like this

Let's see what his second year looks like before going that far, yeah? Dude needs to learn how to shoot before we starting bringing the word "championship" back to San Antonio.

The Spurs need shooting more than everything. This contract could be an anchor that will hinder them for the next 5 years because it can legitimately be a negative asset. I am of the opinion that this type of contract should be only be given to all nba level players and Fox while good isn’t that type of player.

Yea Fox getting paid like he's Luka is rediculous man. In any trade where Nico Harrison isn't involved, how many 1st rounders would need to be added in a straight up Luka for Fox trade? Fox, 4 1sts, 3 swaps for Luka? And would that even be enough?

And it's a good idea to pay him what Luka makes? Lol

And what team is gonna want that ridiculously overpaid contract?

I dont think people here understand how much of a negative value Fox has become now with this contract. A score first small point guard that isn't a good shooter and can't play defense?

Players like him (with varying but similar level of talent) are a dime a dozen in this current league. And they aren't worth much to msny teams. Its a big part of why the Kings didn't get much for him. Even Trae Young has more value than him.

What team(s) are gonna want to make a claim for him and his contract now? Especially at the expense of getting trading someone at a more valuable position/skillset for?

Spurs sure do love to hand out big money to mid players recently.

It's not like this past season was an outlier for him; his AS season was the outlier. I don't see this contract aging well at all.

He’s coming off, on paper, his worst year in the league though. You don’t see many if any players coming off a -2 bpm getting that much money.

I wonder if the Spurs just Kings-ed themselves?

Excellent player with his value diminished because of contract (Fox, Fox).

Played next to a high-end, mostly duplicative young player (Hali, Harper) that leads to a sum less than its parts…

Should be interesting. I don’t think Harper will have as big an impact as healthy Haliburton though. Time will tell all.

Would be worth it if the Spurs start making the playoffs, this next season and would be in the playoffs the next decade. Some point, they'd win one or two with Wemby (with or without Fox).

Either way, I think Wemby will stay with the Spurs atleast for the next 7 years when he's trade eligible after he sign his 35% supermax contract if this CBA salary designation will continue until then. Money is too huge to pass up on that and one of my biggest concern is his health. Do Wemby be healthy enough to play 65 games to qualify for MVP/All-NBA/DPOY as requirements to be eligible for supermax? With the way he's trying to prove himself especially defending in space, his ligaments won't be kind to him and his blood clots(DVT) will always be a threat to be a recurring issue.

Yes, blood clots can recur. Approximately one-third of individuals who experience a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE) will have a recurrence within 10 years according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | CDC (.gov). The risk is highest in the first few months to years after the initial clot

Let's just hope for the best as Wemby will always be fun to watch.

Vassell is the 86th highest paid player in the league. Prior to Fox, that was their last “big money” contract

He won’t most likely, but the best ability is availability and Halliburton has been damaged goods for some time sadly

Fox should be getting what Mikal Bridges is getting. He is not a superstar

Yeah they had to do it, was probably part of the agreement to ask out.

One of Fox, Castle or Harper will be gone before that financial bind becomes an issue in a couple of years. All 3 of those guys are better on-ball and they don’t really compliment each other much. Two of them can’t shoot well and the 3rd we don’t know. I think they’ll move one of them early - they could use a talent upgrade in the frontcourt around Wemby. Like a tall two way forward/wing that can put up points. No wonder they wanted Durant.

How anyone can compare the self own cluster **** of Wayoff P to Wemby based only on what we know of each so far is hilarious.

Wemby has been a Spurs fan since he was a kid. Euro players don't usually chase team hopping (pick your favourite and insert). I'd take Wemby at his word.

Castle Black wrote:He was always getting the Max. That was part of the handshake agreement with Rich Paul and Klutch when we traded for him. Just part of being a small market team unfortunately.

Spurs needed a legit #2 to pair with Wemby long term though and they got him. And throughout his prime years (27-31) too thankfully. Now he needs to improve his 3PT Shooting to earn that money. And Spurs need to continue to internally develop the rest of our roster (Harper, Castle, Sochan, Vassell, Bryant, etc.) to support those two.

Prime years for an athletic guard that can’t shoot are 23-27. Fox already showed concerning signs of decline last season and is going to be 29 by the time this extension kicks in. I think the “good years” for Fox are already over and I doubt he’ll ever be a top 60 player again. What the Spurs got for the max is a declining league average starter who will have to come off the bench behind Castle and Harper for the Spurs to ever contend while he’s on the roster.
