Telling, that he hadn't signed the Two-Way deal.
Amari is not out in the cold.
We just drafted him. The question is not whether he will get a contract or not. The question is simply whether he'll get a standard contract or a 2-way.
You don't draft a guy and just not sign him to any type of contract. That's not something that happens. That would be really bad asset management.
When you draft a guy, there's 3 options:
a) sign him to standard contract
b) sign him to a 2-way
c) stash him overseas
Considering Williams was a college player and has never played overseas pro ball, the chances of him being stashed overseas are like 1 or 2%.
It's either a standard contract or a 2-way. Probably a 2-way, with either Norris or Luis getting waived.
Out of the players who were drafted in the 46-59 range in this year's draft:
-2 of them are being stashed overseas
-6 of them have been signed (5 of them signed a 2-way contract while 1 of them, Tyrese Proctor signed a 4 yr rookie contract)
-6 of them haven't been signed yet, including Amari
I believe in last year's draft, the only guy who didn't get signed to either a standard contract or a 2-way was Nikola Djurisic and that was an outlier case because he suffered an injury (in summer league, i believe) that kept him out for pretty much the entire season so it didn't really make sense to use a 2-way slot on him and it didn't make sense to stash him overseas and make an overseas team pay his salary if he was gonna be injured for basically the whole season so the Hawks just had him come back late in the season on a regular g league contract and play some games with their g league team..then, this summer he signed a 3 year rookie contract with the Hawks.
