Hopefully she and the baby are gonna be ok. You got to be incredibly unlucky to be bitten by a shark. I'm sure a lot of us have swam with them unknowingly, but an attack is extremely rare.

Are we sure this is accurate? I heard Gallinari's wife bit the shark.

I've never been bitten by a snark but i swim with a yellow kickboard so they know i'm not a dolphin.

I've never heard of a freshwater shark.
Maybe he's on to something? :P

Im just talking about the body of water in general, **** the animals in it..

People die in lakes all the time, like Lake Laniere.

They must be really rare because i've been to the beach hundreds of times.
Never been pregnant though either, but will in the next 20 years i assume.
Maybe sharks can sense pregnancy and their is a connection?
Sounds like a PhD study.

I literally was just reading an article yesterday talking about how scientists think that most shark attacks are caused by sharks mistaking humans for seals due to their poor eyesight. This is also why surfers are often victims as the boards look like seals fishing in the waves. Once they get to us, they're usually not that interested because we don't have blubber so, like in this case, many shark attacks are an initial bite where the shark then backs off when they realize they don't want to eat us.

Maybe a pregnant woman looks more like a seal?

It sounds like wife and baby are ok:

According to a further report by El Nuevo Dia, the most popular newspaper on the island, Commissioner of the Carolina municipal police Ruben Moyeno confirmed that the woman was bitten on her thigh, causing an open wound. Moyeno would state that her condition was described as “stable”.

Doubt it. I feel like sharks are like people. Unpredictable. Most leave us alone. Some are curious and take a bite. Some are from mistaken identity. Some are from territorial. And some just want to eat a person cause they are hungry.

It is dangerous to get near the mouth of a pregnant woman, their food cravings can get very bizarre. I wouldn't be surprised if this headline is backwards

Shark's sound so fun to be around and thrilling to be around. I bought a shark nightie on saturday because of it.

I mean, there are 137M sq miles of ocean, so that is 7 sharks per sq mile. That's the equivalent of a shark being within a 350meter circle of any spot in the ocean. They actively avoid us though.

So if they actively avoid us and mostly avoid open ocean (I presume) there must be certain areas of ocean shallows that are basically shark hotels. Sharks on top of sharks.

Actually, it's estimated that over 50% of shark species, live in the deep ocean and have adapted (long ago) to life at those depths

I live in a tropical island where there are huge amount of sharks present. No way I would never go swimming in any other place than authorized safe locations. Oceans present many other dangers as well, here where I live it is also the sudden waves that have taken many people to their deaths, so you need to be alert when close to shore and respect the powers of the sea.
