Naji Marshall for Jordan Hawkins

Post#1 » by daoneandonly » Wed Aug 6, 2025 5:37 pm

Is this one close at all?

Naji was at his best in Nawlins and they developed him into a nice NBA role player. Hawkins has not seemed to work out for them and now they have Poole/Fears as the backcourt. For Dallas, they take a chance to see if Hawkins can develop into a nice 2, perhaps some tutelage from Klay could help. Dallas also sheds some money since they have a massively overpaid Anthony Davis on the books

I think the Pels win on value, but they probably don’t want to go over the tax like this?

But it could just be a later trade of Bey (or Naji if Bey looks good) to get back under.. Or it could be Bey/Hawkins for Naji and NOP’s choice of Prosper/Williams..

No idea what Bey is seen as**

I would really like to see "The Knife" back in the Pelicans uniform. Sadly this team is not going anywhere so its waste of winning player. As much as im fan of the Pelicans, im also fan of basketball and i dont want any players that play with heart and brain to rot on the Pelicans next 5 seasons.
After this all burns down and FO and ownership are out then we can talk.

Yea I like Naji, and even though there's a bit of excess in Dallas' frontcourt, AD is a sure-fire bet to miss at least 33 games, so he can have a place. I just like Hawkins' potential fit in Dallas, and he's from my hometown.

I'm still on Hawkins island though I know better. If Martin looked playable and Zion/Poole shockingly worked then maybe its an in-season deal to look at. But Marshall right now figures to have a pretty big role off the bench for Dallas.

Yea i think it would be a risk worth taking for the Mavs. I would like to see a preseason starting 2 battle between Klay, Hawkins, and Christie. And if somehow one of the latter 2 wins, Klay would be the backup 3 and the need for Martin to prove worthy becomes less of a thing. Though dept matters.

Yes please, give me Naji back. Hawkins seriously could be very good, has been dealing with a back thing last season. But I love Naji

A straight swap puts the Pels right at or just over the lux tax (currently 4.2m under).

How attached are Mavs to Christie? I guess Nico would value him highly to save face, being a return piece from the Luka trade. Would Mavs have interest in Alvarado? Re-unite him with his beside Naji. Bit guess they really like the new Nemhard in undersized PG role.

Christie + O-Max
for
Alvarado + Hawkins (+ 2nd?)

Mavs get a great backup PG to push the pace and shift the energy. Get a flier on Hawkins as a young flamethrower. They also save some money further under the tax/apron.

Pels clear room for Fears to thrive, moving on from 2 of "Griffin's guys." They get a solid back up SG who fits Coach Green's defensive style and take a flier on Prosper as a back up forward.

Gafford/ Lively/ Powell
Davis/ Washington
Flagg/ Marshall/ Martin
Thompson/ Hardy/ Exum/ Hawkins
Russell/ Alvarado/ Nembhard/ [Irving]

Looney/ Missi/ Matkovic
Williamson/ Queen/ Prosper
MurphyIII/ Bey/ Peavy
Jones/ Christie
Poole/ Springer/ Fears/ [Murray]

I think Jose is pretty critical to the Pels especially before Murray gets back. I understand we just drafted a guard but he's super young and Jose is a plus minus god when he is a full time bench player.

As for the riginal trade, if we had kept Reeves I say yes to this no question, but with our current roster, I don't know where the bench scoring comes from without movement shooting from Hawkins, at least until Queen can earn some minutes.

Mavs should be pretty attached to Max Christie. He's like 22/23 and already a near elite defender, with good athleticism, a developing but already good shot, and overall he's just a great hard working, low maintenance kid.

He's exactly who Dallas should not be giving up and instead view as part of what is super promising young(ish) core of Flagg, Lively, Christie. In a league with GM's desperate to find 3&D role players, Dallas is sitting on a really good one. Trading him for 3rd string guards would be foolish.
