Still sorting out how I feel about Kalkbrenner so watching random scouting vids on him on youtube. Found one where they make the point that his rim protection and defense is particularly impressive given his very low foul rate, which suggests that he'll be able to stay on the floor. Went and checked and, other than his freshman season when he didn't really play, he never averaged more then 2 fouls per game or 2.5 fouls per 40 minutes.

That's pretty damn impressive.

In case you're curious, here is the video I was watching where they brought this up:

He clearly outplayed Reynaud in the head to head, and was maybe the best player in the championship game. 15 pts on 6 shot attempts is very strong work.

I think the 3pt shot is good enough that he can share the court with moose for stretches during the regular season. That might give us a chance to have rebounding and shotblocking on the floor at the same time.

One of these is an overreaction.

there are some obvious holes in his game at this early stage, but he already feels like a great find in the 2nd round.

having 2nd rounders that can play minutes is an instant win and it appears we've found 2. thats good scouting.

Reminds me of a young Brook Lopez before he started shooting 3's.

I'm still shocked he fell into the 2nd round at all.

He's not super mobile or stout, but he's a legit 7 footer with soft touch who was DPOY in a major conference and never once fouled out of a game (great sign he's not going to pile them up in the pros either once acclimated). That's a lot of positive things to work with even if he's not going to be great in every matchup.

Kalk is just a smart player with good instincts, soft hands, great touch around the rim and a natural defender/**** blocker. He got pushed around some by Drummond but Andre does that to everybody. He’s pretty strong, sets some tough screens. He is our best center right now. Moose is still improving but he can’t hang with large 5’s as well. Plum is experienced, but he’s….Plum.

Kalk will keep getting better. He’s no potential all star, but like watching how quickly he’s impacting the games for us!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm happy with my first impressions of him today (expectations being low-ish but still...)

He had no chance in hell matching up with Embiid, just like our other center options, but I'm cautiously encouraged with what I saw in the second half. He got a putback or two, and most importantly imo, was in position to take advantage when Philly's backups left him open. Defense looks exploitable in some matchups but he held his own a little better than I was expecting. He did have a block that looked like something Brook Lopez would do... so let's keep dreaming on that lol

When you're 7'1-7'2, you aren't constantly out of position, and generally look like you know what's going on, there is a pretty high floor for you. Based on that alone, I'm pretty confident in him being a better long-term backup than someone like Nick Richards who was leagues more athletic but played every game with the confusion of a 19-year-old prospect.

I think Grant coming back has a chance to really help him a lot.

So far mark missed the entire preseason. Came off the bench in the first two games with a minutes restriction. And missed the second night of a back-to-back. Certainly doesn't sound like someone who is over his chronic injury problems.

Kalk is better than post injury WIlliams in availability, defense, shooting and equal in rbs. Just more positive impacts on the game. Petersen did a good job on the second rounders (plus Kon too and Liam probably?).
