Hardly a surprise that Varsho and Kirk are all over this list. Two clutchest Jays on the roster.

Last three runs of the comeback driven in by MVP Varsho and the best catcher in the game.

Was there ever any doubt?

WAR rate leaders among the starters for the Jays in 2025:
MVP Varsho—0.042 WAR per game
Captain Kirk—0.033 WAR per game
Vlad—0.032 WAR per game
Springer—0.025 WAR per game
Bichette—0.024 WAR per game
Schneider—0.022 WAR per game
Clement—0.021 WAR per game
Barger—0.021 WAR per game
Gimenez—0.017 WAR per game
Lukes—0.013 WAR per game

They chose well.

I wonder how expensive Varsho is going to be to lock up?

Kirk has become better defensively than I could have ever imagined. However, he still isnt even the best hitting catcher on their roster…

I know he had a good series and is having a good year slashing .292/.352/.405 , but Heineman is slashing .339/.414/.496!

In the second half of the season, Kirk is slashing just .242/.315/.394, yards while Heineman has slashed a ridiculous .364/.488/.576!

I dont know what’s worse feeding 3/4 of the ABs to someone performing far inferior at the plate, or sending down Loperfido after he put up a .358/.409/.506 slash line for them instead of Lukes ( who has cooled off and slashing just .200/.252/.421 in the second half, and actually performed better against lefties than righties in 2025.)

I dont know about you, but i want as many .900+ OPS bats that I can get in my lineup..

They still won 2 of 3, but that doesnt change my opinion that TH needs to play more, and Loperfido better be the guy returning in no more than a couple weeks.

You think Tyler Heineman is a better hitter than Kirk?

Heineman has a wOBA of .395, but his xwOBA is .292. An average of .339, but an xAVG of .227. A SLG% of .496, but an xSLG of .314. His BABIP is .404. He has an average exit velocity of 84.7.

It's indisputable he's performed at a higher level than Kirk. Whether it's sustainable or how his career number line up is irrelevant. We're all about small sample size, and skewed statistics in this thread. 3rd year in a row where Kirk has been the 2nd best catcher on this team.

Victor Robles also went off; Japanese league chose well not to sign him.

It is, for this thread. Only interested in skewed stats, small sample size and picking/choosing stats that help your argument. We don't need objectivity.

Literally half of brwnman's total posts on this forum have come on this thread. There's no point in trying to talk sense into someone who hates Varsho and Kirk that much, even as they are the most valuable players on a contending team.

why does he hate them so much anyway

of all the online characters i’ve seen in the social media age, this one is certainly one of the more strange ones. it’s like a fan fic where the plot is all about hating kirk and varsho. just a bizarre schtick to hitch your wagon to haha.

Rich coming from a guy who called Varsho a Top 15 player in baseball (last year) and Top 3 OF this year. Also, moving the goalpost anytime his argument was hilariously destroyed. Speaking of hate, this coming from the guy who actively hates on Vladdy who has been the Jays best player year after year? Hypocrisy at its finest. Anywho.

Maybe he just really loved the slap hitting Moreno and was devastated by the trade? It makes little sense otherwise. Varsho and Kirk have been very valuable players all along and they are in the middle of great years. No real Jays fan hates them.

As far as Vlad goes, I don’t think anybody here dislikes him either. His absurd contract maybe that Ed and Shapiro gave him, sure, but that isn’t his fault.

Update:

In games started by Varsho since his return against Major League caliber teams (non-Colorado games)

11 games:
.235 Avg, 6 RS, 2 HR, 4RBIs, 16 KS - Jay Record (4-7)

During the same stretch, Straw's stats (same number of ABs):
.323 Avg, 7 RS, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 3 SB, 10 Ks - Jays Record (9-5) and a catch last night that Varsho would have 0% chance of catching

As expected, the Jays were going to be worse off when Varsho returned costing opportunities from better performing players. His presence in the lineup/clubhouse actively hurts the production of his teammates. The vibes are no longer immaculate.

Zero runs (driven in or scored) in a failed comeback bid by MVP Varsho and the best catcher in the game. 0-8, 2 Ks, 3 left on base.

Was there ever any doubt?

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
