2016 Draymond Green. All-time peak?

Post#1 » by picc » Thu Aug 7, 2025 9:48 pm

DPOY-caliber
Solid 3-pt shooter
Elite big playmaker
Great leader (nut shots aside)

We all know the system critiques, but his playoffs without Curry should mitigate at least some of that. He was stellar against the Rockets and Blazers with no Steph. I was personally blown away by his performance this year and think he had incredible overall value, but want to canvass the forum on it again.

Where does he rank in all-time peaks?

73 wins

Had to be suspended in the Finals to even give the GOAT a chance

An extremely impactful player even if the stats don’t jump off the screen. His peak is definitely higher than some HOF empty stats guys with high PPG.

He’s a winner that has all the intangibles.

IDK I feel like he's a prick on the court, but off the court everyone seems to like him.

Everyone except Jordan Poole that is.

Yeah ok I take that and stand corrected - I'm obviously not privy to what he's like in the real world.

Idc if he is a prick btw. This is just about basketball. He could be an ahole for it matters.

Fair enough, I can see where you're coming from

Personally, I think there's a happy middle ground where competitiveness does not equate to being a grubby prick on the court.

Yeah. His fire makes him a good leader though. It sure wasn't Curry or Klay leading those mid-2010 teams in the huddle/locker room/on court. Draymond is an **** on court but that doesn't stop you from being a good leader.

As a dude he seems popular in the NBA circles outside of a select few guys he's PUNCHED OUT or CHOKED OUT.

Drays' impact on GS defense was almost as big as Steph's impact on GS offense.

Without thinking too too hard I'd assume 35-55 range for best peak. Dray was absolutely insane that year.

Obviously a great player.

I will always have a hard time giving him unreserved credit for his on-court contributions because his behavior should have taken him off the court far more often. He's been spared dozens of deserved ejections and suspensions, which, if enforced properly, would have been very damaging to the Warriors. As it is, he may have cost them the GOAT season and an extended stay for Durant.

He deserved the suspension, Draymond is lucky he didn't get suspended first in the Thunder series.

He's probably a regular top 15 guy for his prime but that year for whatever reason he couldn't be ignored from the perimeter so I guess he could've hit top 5 ish. Super weird and brief peak for sure for a guy with a pretty standard shaped prime.
