Lofton is eligible for a Two-Way. He has at least 1 yr left, maybe 2.

Supposedly Shulga is only on a one year deal. Why does this make sense? What is a team commonly obligated to in a two-year two-way deal that it isn't anyway obligated to in a one year contract?

Should we presume that there's no benefit to the Celtics from the deal being that short, and therefore Shulga's side can be assumed to have insisted on it?

I don't think it really matters to be honest. They kept extending JD Davison's two way contract every summer by one year. On the other hand the only guy they gave a two year two way, Miles Norris (probably because he signed so late in the season), didn't even make it to the second season. So it sure doesn't provide additionnal job security for the player. For NBA teams, you want to convert and lock in guys long term at/near the minimum as soon as they show they belong (see Neemias Queta for instance) but before it's obvious to other teams and they come with bigger offers during the summer (which you can still match of course since guys on two ways are restricted free agent but that's hardly optimal cap management).

A Max Shulga playmaking edit someone made and posted to youtube. Shulg-Dog didn't shoot the ball well at all but over 105 minutes he rang up 19 assists against only 3 turnovers. And when you reduce his SL performance down to the edit of his playmaking, his feel as a passer looks pretty promising imo

From what I've seen (and read), he is a quietly confident, serious player, devoted to the game. Solid skills, good B-Ball IQ,and a hard worker. As I have previously posted, he wasn't tasked with shooting the ball during SL, rather to bring the ball up, and run the offense. His last three years of college ball had him shooting 39% from the 3-point line. I expect we will see a lot more shooting from him in the G-League. If he manages to make it to the NBA, though, it will be for his all-around game. Very interested to see how things progress for him next year in Maine.
