My biggest problem is some folks are really underrating him just cause they don't want the heat to pay him. No there's not 10 SGs better than him lol. Also, if we're not paying Herro, I don't think we'd pay Powell instead, thats backwards. Even if its less money.
I disagree. I think most on this board see Herro for who he is, but some are optimistic and some are pessimistic about his ceiling.
If Powell were willing to sign for ~$20M/season, that would likely be about half of what Herro would be demanding. You get 90% of Herro's production for half the cost + whatever you get in a Herro trade. That's worth considering, imo, until/unless Herro proves he is something other than just another good guard in a league full of them.
Locking a guy his age and level up for long term doesn't make sense if you're not a contender. Especially if you're trading away one of your two allstars. If you're trading away Herro, it makes more sense to trade away Powell too. A Bam Powell team with a bunch of young guys, a few picks, and what vets we have after is even worse than us now.

When Spo paired Herro next to Lowry Spo made Lowry play SG until he eventually replaced Lowry with Vincent

If Oladipo was healthy and could shoot a bit better he would have been great. Norman is by far the best of the rest. And Spo needs to take the shackles off these guys, if we're not top 15 in pace it's a coaching indictment

I could see Tyler averaging 25+PPG on 50/40/90 splits at his peak
That’s pretty elite BTW and not real far off from where he currently sits
The way Tyler Herro was defended the 2nd half of the season post Jimmy was insane and you can’t convince me that a guy who demands that type of defensive attention isn’t a dude. They defended Tyler like he was Curry and that’s not just my opinion multiple opposing Coaches said so after games.
He wasn’t standing in the corner knocking down open 3s. His handle needs to take a step to take advantage of the pressure he sees to free up his teammates and re open clean opportunities for himself. The shot making is without question though. This is prove it year for Herro, and I don’t think it’s out of the realm to really be having a different discussion about him here in a few months.
The numbers you posted were put up by Z Lavine in 2020-2021. He's more or less averaged 24-4-4 on 48-39-84 over the last 5 seasons. I don't think anyone is talking about Lavine being elite.
I think Herro is a very good player, but I just don't see him having the intangibles to be elite. He just doesn't have the handles, the ability to draw fouls, or the ability to get the separation to get his shot off consistently. I hope Herro proves me wrong and you right.

Healthy Oladipo was probably the perfect archtype with Herro.

We made deep runs with Nunn, Gabe, and to a lesser extent healthy Dipo although Gabe and Dipos runs came with little Herro. Are we considering those failures for some reason?

Re: 2025 Offseason Thread Vol.6
One thing seems certain is Herro and Powell will be our starting backcourt next season. They are talking up Powell too much to have him come off the bench. Mitchell will be the ignitor off the bench. With that said I hope Jovic takes a massive leap cause his skill set really compliments the staring unit. Bam and Ware without a true PG just seem’s clunky. Rather have Mitchell feeding Ware off the bench leading the second unit and whenever Ware and Bam are on the floor together. Ware can get starters minutes easily off the bench in a 3 man big rotation. I know some are going to cry about Ware going back to the bench but if Jovic is truly ready why would we hold him back? His final form skillset was always the perfect compliment to Bam. He’s now 6’10 245 with plenty of weight to help out Bam down low. He might be stronger than Ware now.

I am talking about pairing with Herro, not how they paired with someone else.

That wont last if thats how they start. Eventually one will have to come off the bench.

He's going to be a starter. Riley promised his jersey would be hanging from the rafters. Deal with it lol

I’ll be pretty disappointed if we refused to offer Ware for KD then follow that by demoting him to the bench.

Yep, much rather start Jovic at the 3 than demote Ware.
