If it was on Christmas it would have gotten less ratings than whatever NFL game was playing that day.

They never put their best matchups on opening day and there's good reason for that

Came into this thread fully expecting to see Lakers-Mavs. I’m absolutely shocked it’s not on the schedule for either of those days.

Not me, I guess the NBA does not think the Mavericks will be a good team this year so they did not put it on the schedule

The Finals teams normally have a Christmas Day game, even if it is not against each other. I am sorry Pacers fans.

Literally the two biggest draws in the league. When LeBron retires, Curry will have that distinction to himself until he retires. Yes I know people hate on the NBA for it but it would be terrible business to not feature the Lakers and Warriors whenever possible.

Should've put the pistons or new look Magic there instead of the cavs

Agreed.

I wouldn't mind a NY/DET rematch and a CLE/ORL, or they can keep NY/CLE and do DET/ORL. Instead, we get four Western Conference matchups.

This is the exact opposite of good marketing strategy lol. Trying to force your audience to like something they haven’t already shown an inclination for is incredibly stupid.

A good marketing strategy is to promote these up-and-coming teams on the national stage throughout the season to give them more exposure. Teams like ORL and DET have stars who are coming into their own, and they deserve more airtime. It gives fans a better overall product and lets them also see games they never would have seen since not all fans don't live in the area their team resides in.

I can't be the only one who is tired of seeing GS and/or the Lakers on my screen if I tune in on a weekday at 10 PM EST. We can already guarantee that during the holidays, they will play.

The east is weak this year, who did you want them to put in, hawks vs magic? Ooof, good luck getting anyone to tune in on that.

Magic vs Pistons in a battle of the young guns of the East would be smart if you are supposed to be marketing the future.

As the late David Stern once said, no one is really watching the NBA till April anyway. They can afford to not have Steph vs LeBron on opening night.

Opener should've been Lakers @ Thunder.

I get the East is weaker, but only one East game vs four West games seems quite lopsided. I would've done NY/DET and CLE/ORL matchups. There's a good chance all of those teams will have better records next year than the Spurs, Mavericks and Warriors.

Pretty big joke that they’re only highlighting 1 eastern conference game. Bad schedule, NBA is terrible at marketing.

No, it is a great marketing strategy.

The NFL does it brilliantly.

LOL no **** chance middling eastern teams deserve to be there over the 60+ win Cavs. What the hell?
