Our younger starts kindergarten this year. Even after paying for the afterschool program, we'll be getting about an extra $800 a month back in our pocket. Pretty stoked.

I've lucked out with some in-home daycares. My wife when she was a kid was in in-home so we looked there first. We also found very cheap pricing for suburban one daycares.
We've seen the full rise of prices. First kid we started it was like $175/week all-in in 2016/2017 (she was brand new at daycare so price was low for that era). Had to switch in 2020 or so because the first one moved and the new one was $200, then $225 after price increase. That one then retired, we went back to our first provider a few months ago since we moved into her area...$250 but she includes diapers now. Third kid will probably ride that out her final 2.5ish years.
It's all up to your circumstances and what you find.
Some people value a center but you're going to pay 50-75% more than going in-home.
To me, the biggest pro of a center is backup. The 2 in-home we've had both were a mother of or had a mother that did daycare before so the mom/daughter combo at least provided some cover there. We then would just cobble it together with grandparents and such if our providers got sick or were taking their vacation. If you don't have that luxury, you have to be ready to pay for this.
The other pro/con of center vs. in-home is teaching. I'm sure our kids got a bit less of the school lesson/structure than at a center, but our providers once again were pretty good at at least doing a little bit in that regard.
Again, up to what you feel/your circumstances. I think I lucked out in that my 3 kids all were verbal, good learners, and not chaotic kids at young ages. So I felt comfortable enough bypassing the benefit of having a classroom-esque center structure. Our oldest was signed up for preschool in 2020 and we backed out so as not to do "remote preschool" and kept him at the in-home daycare. From then on, we realized that ours would be fine just skipping that completely. Again - I would imagine a good % of kids may not have this luxury.

I like the seasoned feta cheese crumbles.

That's a pretty good one. But I generally only buy it for one thing and that's gyros or some kind of gyro like sandwich.

I made a really good Mediterranean pasta salad last week that had a bunch of feta in it, it was fantastic in that.

Wisconsinite, astronaut and crazy amazing human Jim Lovell passed away today at 97.

I worked at a daycare/preschool while I was still in school in the summer and I stayed part time my last couple years of school. Summers are chaotic as hell, especially if they allow older kids there too. Schedules and routines are much more relaxed and all of that stuff tightens up when the "school year" starts.

We're moving back to Milwaukee in part so that my parents can help out with child care, at least part time.

Hell yea. My favorite thing to watch. I got this video the first weekend I moved into my new place.
Went from crappy downtown storm footage to cornfields. Couldn't be happier.

My wife is out of town and I’ve got both kids (4 and 1) till Monday and my finished basement has 1-2” of water in it. There was house shaking thunder for five straight hours in New Berlin. The raindrop app says I got over 9 inches tonight.

Does anyone know if I should start with a water damage mitigation company or start by filing a claim with my home insurance?

Roughly 10 inches of rain in the last 10 hours
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Been without power for almost 12 hours now so no sump pump going. Finished basement is destroyed with probably knee high water levels at this point. Craziest storm I’ve been apart of.

Yeesh. That's enough.MickeyDavis wrote:Roughly 10 inches of rain in the last 10 hours
In 2018, we got 15+ inches in about 12 hours. That was unpleasant and also why I have no desire to have a finished basement.

I would contact insurance. Unfortunately, flood insurance and homeowners insurance are different things. We were lucky in that fema helped quite a bit when we had flooding or we would have been effed. I'll stop there to avoid getting political. Ill just say I hope your insurance covers it.dbrodz7 wrote:Does anyone know if I should start with a water damage mitigation company or start by filing a claim with my home insurance?
