This team needed another closer at the deadline. You see how Duran has been Lights Out and elite in Philadelphia, and there is no reason why the Jays could not match the offer the Phillies gave the Twins. 2 more years of control left for Duran, and the Phillies did not even trade their two top prospects for him. Duran looks and acts like a true Closer. He comes in and does not play around with hitters like Hoffman, hoping they would chase his pitches out of the Strike Zone.

The confidence you get from an elite closer like Duran is immeasurable for a team. A missed opportunity for this front office. I am sorry, but I am getting the same Romano vibes after his excellent first month from Hoffman. Who actually trusts this guy to get the job done when it counts? He might get the job done barely while looking nervous, after putting runners on and causing stress to everyone in the process.

My problem here is that Hoffman is looking less and less like a viable high leverage option as he did in April.

His performance in the 9th was very predictable. Hoffman quite likely shouldn't be closing games but we have little choice now.

Yea they need to stop letting him get rusty, it clearly messes with him. I don't know what the stats are but I feel like the last few times he had 4+ days of rest he struggled.

Jays were still 13-9 post-ASB before winning today. You take winning ~60% of your games any day of the week, especially considering 4 of 7 series have been against teams that are in the playoff hunt.

I agree man I have no idea how we sat first in the league, knew pitching was an issue and didn’t go after any of the lights out closers available. Instead they did some bull moneyball **** with Varland and Dominguez. I don’t think Varland is even bad, but Hoffman has not been dominant enough to warrant not addressing his position. Look at the Yankees for example, Devin Williams has been ass so they traded for 2 **** closers. Meanwhile we didn’t even go hard for one. **** **** fisdieuehd

Has been missed opportunities every trade deadline..can't forget that year we missed by 1 game with semien having that great year and vlad finished second in mvp. So many blown saves through the season and they didn't fix the pen, but go dumpster diving. We had bo,Lourdes,hernandez and even grichuck had at least 20 hr. That was the year to go all in..so many multi run leads were blown in the 8th,9th innings and we missed by 1 game

That was a tough situation getting thrown in while rusty against 2 elite hitters. I think Freeman in particular just had a great AB.
