They are both part of the few players available in free agency this summer that deserve to set a new benchmark in many different categories.

Man I can't lie. Losing Deni hurts (and Ja is a stud...goes without saying). But I love Deni. Post all-star break, he was averaging 23, 10, and 5 for Portland on great efficiency (50/41/78). And he plays defense and has strong size.

Still...the rebuild requires tough decisions. Welcome to the team, John and Reed.

I'm getting in my winning now because unless you really f*cked up this draft and next you will have so many assets in the near future.

It's almost like you got the IRL package that the Wizards got for him last summer (2 1sts and a decent vet), plus you also got a good young prospect. Not bad overall.

I'm very happy to get Deni but now I've got more work to do to balance out my lineup. I'm mid-retool.

I might have effed it up this draft. It really hurt when I didn't get a top pick, and I went a super risky route. But go big or go home, right? Hopefully a few of those picks pan out. I feel like drafting here is 25% scouting the players and 75% praying that the right real-life franchise picks the guys you like and builds around them right.

I think moving from rebuilding to competence to contention is really hard. The good teams in this league stay that way every year, it feels, which is bad news for all the rebuilding guys.

it takes a couple years but rebuilding with a lot of draft picks (especially in the 1st round) can go one of two ways. Big hits or a lot of bad salary on the books.

It really depends on situation and your patience. Because some of the young guys will take multiple years to develop and since the SIM is typically a year behind you carry a lot of those lottery type salaries that can certainly add up on your cap. I feel like its an either or...you either have hits or misses. Very rarely do you find that happy "in between" with our draft because so many times people can find those $1 or really cheap veteran role players that outperform role playing rookie contract players that could be making anywhere from $20-$40.

Now the hits? They set up your franchise for the next 5-6 years. Having the flex of a Luka rookie contract or SGA rookie contract (and there team friendly extensions) or now a Wemby rookie contract or likely a Cooper Flagg rookie contract. It certainly allows so much flex to have those caliber of players making way under the star market. We will see the impact of that this FA with a few big names due there first FA contract.

Taking offers for Yanic...latest 1st rounder for the Clippers, on a cheap contract. Extremely athletic rim runner that the Clippers have scouted since high school
