A few days ago, MLB Pipeline had an article profiling the currently hottest minor league player in each team's system

For the Jays, they took 17 year old Juan Sanchez (Met-A-4 flagged this kid recently)
HT 6' 3", WT 180
ETA 2030
Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

Toronto was long in the running for Roki Sasaki as the headliner of the 2025 international class, but when it lost out on the Japanese right-hander, it inked two prominent shortstops from the Dominican Republic instead. Cristopher Polanco came in with the highest bonus at $2,297,500. Sanchez ranked second at $997,500 as the only other Blue Jays addition above $800,000. Playing in his age-17 season, Sanchez already has Dominican Summer League All-Star and Player of the Week honors on his resume following a quick transition to pro ball.

A right-handed slugger, Sanchez already stands at 6-foot-3, and that size gave the Jays plenty to dream on when it came to his power production. He’s gotten to it early with a slugging percentage above .500, but it hasn’t come at the cost of contact, at least at this stage. Sanchez doesn’t have a noisy load in his swing, leaving his strength to do the talking while he doesn’t overcomplicate matters. There’s always the potential he could run into swing-and-miss problems against better velocity and pitching, but early returns are solid.

Sanchez certainly has the arm for the left side of the infield, and he’s split his time between third base and shortstop down in the DR. His size might make him a better full-time fit at the hot corner down the road, especially if he and Polanco bump into each other at higher levels (they were on separate DSL teams in 2025). All the same, Sanchez has only built on an intriguing profile with solid performance as a professional.

Johnny King has 81 strikeouts in 45 innings. He has the highest K/9 in the entire minors.

Barriera is quickly going from top prospect to afterthought. Not entirely his own fault. But it sucks to see.

I have zero faith that Manoah will ever get back to being an effective pircher at the MLB level. This guy doesn't have the control neccesary. Walks 3 in 3 innings and left off his line was that he hit a dude in the head yesterday. He hit a guy in his opening rehab start and the last time he was in the majors he led the league in hitting batters. You could never trust this guy.

More org depth related than prospect related. Ali Sanchez has been claimed by the Boston Red Sox.

Would the recently acquired Valenzuela be our #3 catcher in the organization right now.

Who the hell is Nate Garkow and where did he come from?

I was looking at some minor league strikeout numbers and I see this 27 year old with 15.15 K/9 and notice that he’s on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Love a guy that proved himself in the independent leagues.

Fernando Perez, the Blue Jays #11 prospect, is quietly making significant progress at Vancouver. He's not your orthodox high velocity prospect but he gets results. His last start was his beset

11
Fernando Perez
RHP, Vancouver Canadians, A+
AGE 21

6' 3", 170
SIGNED
Jan. 15, 2022 - TOR

Scouting grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 45 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 55 | Overall: 45

Signed out of Nicaragua in 2022, Perez was a fantastic piece of scouting by the Blue Jays. While he’s never been the prospect to wow evaluators with velocities and pitch movement metrics, Perez has tremendous feel for his pitches, creating a prospect who is greater than the sum of his individual tools. Perez broke out in 2023, posting a 2.72 ERA over 49 2/3 innings in the Complex League, and he followed that up with a 4.06 ERA and 86 strikeouts over 82 innings at Single-A.

Perez’s profile is all about his potential floor, which right now points toward him being a back-end depth starter in the big leagues. For his ceiling to move, some of his stuff will need to tick up once more, which starts with his fastball. Perez sat 93-94 mph last season, which was an encouraging step, while showing a good feel for his 82-85 mph slider. Perez tends to live in the zone (2.1 BB/9 career), which is his greatest strength but also something that will present a challenge. As he faces more advanced hitters who know they’ll be getting pitches near the plate, can Perez adjust and miss bats? The slider will be a key piece there, as will developing a consistent changeup.

This has been a steady development case, which leaves the Blue Jays optimistic that Perez’s upward trajectory will continue. Most pitchers Perez’s age have high-end stuff, but need more feel. Perez is the opposite, which makes him so unique on this list, but it also makes him a safe bet to continue climbing.
