Miles Norris waived

Post#1 » by Gant » Sun Aug 10, 2025 9:37 pm

RJ Luis will take his two way spot. The Celtics tried to get Luis earlier, but he chose Utah. Norris was interesting, but was limited and not exceptionally productive.

The Celtics have waived Miles Norris. That presumably will lead to signing Amari Williams to a two-way deal.

Naturally, people were going to wonder what acquiring RJ Luis Jr. on a two-way deal meant for Amari Williams. However, the Celtics drafting someone and parting with that player before training camp was highly unlikely.

Always the most likely outcome. Good luck Norris

Makes sense. Luis seems like a significantly better prospect than Norris.

why cut a guy who's still growing? Miles Norris might be 7'1" by the time I click 'submit' on this post

Honestly liked Norris as a prospect -- shooting with size, plus some athleticism -- but based on what I saw in Boston and Vegas he has very little all-around game for a guy knocking on the door of making the league. Might work out as a spot-up specialist -- go get em, Miles!

In the end, maybe his time in Boston is best viewed as Sam Hauser insurance, and moving on from Norris could perhaps be read as reassurance that Sam is here to stay. That's as far as I can stretch this minor roster move.

So now all three guys that were on two ways last season are gone. Considering Peterson' and Norris' age (both 25 already) it does make some sense to go with guys that have more upside left. Cycling through two way guys quickly and getting more bites at the apple is the right idea in general anyway. Not for the players obviously because lack of job security sucks but certainly for the teams. Hope he can land on his feet somewhere but this late in the offseason I don't think there are a lot of spots still open.

I'm glad we're keeping Luis. All I know of him is from what I saw in his highlights, and he's very intriguing in those. In fact, just looking at those I thought that some off the court thing must have kept him from being drafted. Looking forward to seeing what he does in the G. I don't know how good he'll be, but he's pretty exciting to watch.

Probably, yeah.

Norris is a better shooter and is like 2-3" taller.

Neither is a great passer.

Luis is slightly more athletic..he's also stronger..biggest advantages with Luis is he's about 3 yrs younger..and a much better driver and finisher at the rim. He's a better defender and rebounder too.

I'm fine with this..as I posted the other day, we kicked the tires on Norris but there probably isn't much there considering he's 25 yrs old, has only been on a 2-way contract and has to make a meaningful impact at the NBA level..and was not very good in SL this year.

Not that SL means a ton but Norris is a shooter yet only shot 25% from 3 at SL this year and didn't score more than 11 pts in any SL game. At age 25, with 2 full yrs under his belt in the g league, you'd expect more from him in SL.

So I'm fine with waiving him and kicking the tires on Luis.

Good luck, Miles!

Well, that clears things up. It did seem weird that Amari would be out-in-the-cold, after being Drafted.

Yeah, I think it'll get announced that Amari is signing a 2-way either on Monday or Tuesday of this week.

Sounds good.
We really need 5 x Two-Ways, for our League(s).

Nice kid, decent player, but expendible. He should be able to carve out a good career in Europe. Luis may be expendible too, but who knows?

I think there was a bit of drama with him, iirc some predraft podcast said his college coach told him he should go pro (ie, don’t come back).

Idk that much about him though.

Thanks. I don't know anything about him, just thought he looked too good to go undrafted. I hope he pans out. I think we have been needing more athleticism, particularly last year, and this kid seems quite athletic and dynamic, and I am kind of a sucker for guys who produce highlights. I find myself more interested in seeing what he can do than any 2 way guy we've had since I don't know when.

Once JT went down and the teams trajectory changed drastically, Norris became replaceable IMO.

I saw him play in Portland and he was active and exciting. He stood out to my young 12 and 8 yr old sons who are just learning the game. Maine Celtics are fun time. The venue is small. I feel like I played in gyms in high school that were bigger.

I take it they gave up on Norris's D. Kind of like Peterson.

Both those guys not strong enough on the defensive end.

So yeah, that could be the reason why.
