From what I remember about Lost the creators had the concept of the beginning and how they wanted it to end but no real plan on how to get there. So it wandered around. Abrams left during the first season to do MI. Lloyd Braun, who came up with the concept, was fired before the show got going. Ratings were good. After season 3 ABC announced there would be 50 more episodes over 3 more seasons (they ended up doing 49) and that allowed the writers to tighten a few things up.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Related to this comment, my wife and I were trying to find something to watch and she was like, should we watch Lost, I’ve never seen it and I was like hell yeah. But now I’m wondering if this is some cruel and unusual torture I’m subjecting her to knowing where this journey is headed.

Hoping the amount of loose ends and the overall ending aren’t as bad as I remember.

I'm recycling shows to watch for the umpteenth time but this one never gets back in the rotation because of how bad it went. I think I'd watch HIMYM all the way through again before even considering Lost.

Everyone I know who binged Lost didn't enjoy it. Everyone who watched it week to week thought it was incredible.

I binged it. I hated it. I think it was because every time they hinted at something being important, it ended up not being anything. A whole lot of unused "Chekhov's guns" and those things all stayed fresh in my mind because I watched it quickly.

Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”

I really like it. Michael Connolly always has interesting characters and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is good (as is much of the cast). And if you haven't watched Bosch, it's also based on a Connolly book series set in the same LA venue.

Yeah, it's not an all-time classic show, for me, but it's entertaining and well-acted. And Season 3 featured one of the most gorgeous women I've personally seen in Yaya DaCosta. Too bad she won't be back for Season 4, as her character was created specifically for the show and not from the source material.

LOST would have been better served as a show if they hadn't been so pressured and tried to give the fantastic elements a realistic footing. It took a ton of cues from Twin Peaks (as many shows do), but like most shows/movies that ape Lynch, it didn't have the conviction to just observe the stuff that was deposited by their subconscious and leave it alone. Like, I'm sure there are people who got really worked up about never getting the full story of the Black Lodge or how it worked or what have you, but it would not have ever served the story to try to expose that.

The thing that worked best about LOST was the characters within that pseudo-magical pseudo-sci fi setting, and what I think people really wanted was a satisfying conclusion to *their* stories, and what we got was "everybody goes to heaven together" -- it pulled the rug out from under the entire series and retconned all the stakes. That's a cop-out and I think that's why it was rejected. Not because the explanation for the island wasn't cool enough. It didn't even need to be attempted.

Story-wise, I think they **** the show when Ben killed Locke.

Lindelof got another crack at it with The Leftovers and nailed it.

Seasons 4-6 of Lost was the first network show to run consecutive episodes with no breaks or reruns in between.

85% of the time I agree with everything you write. 5 % I hold differing opinions. 5% I am just not sure because you watch an unhealthy amount of college basketball and also probably run a regional university lit department and Im in a little over my head. And then about once a month you make statements like the two above, that I could not possibly agree with more, that Ive been trying to work in to conversations for years. I want a few of you down at the corner bar.

Ha! Just picked up The Lincoln Lawyer today as I work my way through the entire Bosch universe following this list.

Saw Naked Gun last night and it was hilarious. Perfect length and Neeson and even Anderson did a great job. Especially the first half of the film.

I've been watching Countdown on Prime. It's the typical try to stop the terrorists from detonating a bomb. But it's decent enough and I like Eric Danes and Jensen Ackles. The unusual thing is there are 13 episodes.

Wow Weapons was absolutely bonkers. Can't wait to listen to Cregger's interview on The Big Picture. This has been such a fun year for movies.

If you like Bosch, you'll also really like the new spinoff Ballard, which just came out a few weeks ago. I loved it.

This. Also helped that they just had way better actors (Theroux, Carrie Coon, Regina King, Ann Dowd, Chris Eclesston) and the freedom of a premium television format. But Lost was almost like the beta test and Leftovers was the finished product that's superior in every way.

Anyone watch Tulsa King? I enjoyed it way more than I expected. The second season has some really cheesy moments but all in all it was a fun ride.

Yeah it's pretty fun. Stallone in Tulsa is a hoot.

Tulsa King is perfect guy drama. Nostalgia of Stallone. A pretty solid concept/story. Mob elements. A bit of violence. A bit of sex/drugs/rock and roll. But it also has heart and humor.

Pretty good show all around.

I mentioned in the OT thread that UFC is moving to Paramount+ in 2026. Current plans:

Paramount+ offers two main subscription plans: Paramount+ Essential and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. The Essential plan, priced at $7.99/month or $59.99/year, includes a vast library of content, live CBS news, and some sports like NFL on CBS and UEFA Champions League, but it does have ads. The Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, which is $12.99/month or $119.99/year, offers ad-free viewing (except for live TV) and includes all SHOWTIME content, more live sports, and the ability to download content.

I have the plan with Showtime. $120 a year. As was mentioned in the other thread both plans will no doubt see increases. UFC is costing them $1.1 billion per year for 7 years. My plan doesn't renew until March unfortunately and you can't renew early.

Dexter Resurrection has been pretty great so far. I thought the initial trailer looked pretty silly and wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but it’s delivering so far and the last two episodes have been outstanding. It definitely is a bit ridiculous but in an acceptable and still super entertaining way. MCH as Dexter is still a god tier character performance all these years later.
