BINGO!

The problem is

JT is the teams top rebounder out of need
JT is the teams top playmaker out of need

JT is also asked to be the top offensive option.
JT also is a top notch defender

That is not sustainable unless you are a once a generation type of athletic freak like Giannis or Lebron or MJ. even then, they break down or coast on defense (lebron)

Tatum is more a Tim Duncan player than Lebron. And thats not a knock on him at all, he isnt blessed with supreme athleticism or freak size. Instead he works hard and kills it that way....but that wears you down....and the result is taking step back 3s instead of attacking the rim. Taking fade aways instead of taking the hit.

Yeah, time for Brad to get an explosive PG that can attack the rim with force.

A PG like Castle is what the Cs need.

That should lessen JT's playmaking.

JT doing it all does not work anymore.

Based on a discussion of a camp for leading high schoolers, it sounds like Tatum is a serious mentor to next-generation players.

Also, so far so good on his recovery.

“He was moving really well,” said the scout in a phone conversation with Heavy Sports later that day. “There might have been a slight limp or something, but the surprising thing to me is that he didn’t have a boot for any of it."

“I’m no doctor, but I’ve seen guys coming back from Achilles’ tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving. I have no idea for what any of this means for when he can come back. I’m sure him and the Celtics’ medical people have their program set up, and they’ll make sure that he’s where he needs to be when he does get back. But he looks great right now. Of course, he didn’t do any running or even jogging, but he was in great shape and he had no trouble doing his part at the camp.”

This is probably one of the main things Tatum needs to work on - not holding the ball for so long before doing something with it. It bogs down our offense, makes us play slower when he holds onto it longer.

We were one of the lowest teams in the league last season in terms of pace, I believe.

Makes us much easier to defend when we play slower.

That is true.

Hopefully JT realizes that.

If Joe can successfully implement a faster pace then JT will have no choice but to go with the flow.

Curious how much of this is by design.

Seems (and sounds) like they game plan to use Tatum's 1v1 ability to try to draw defenders to create space - I don't think Tatum is the best example of a 0.5 guy but also I don't think it's entirely *not* the scheme, either.

It might be partly the scheme..but during games we often see the camera pan to Joe on the sideline waving his arms around, making that motion with his arms that signals "hurry up, guys! C'mon, move it up the floor faster, let's push the pace!"

And Joe often talks in interviews and pressers about the importance of pace and how he wants the team to play with pace. The 2 words most uttered by Joe to the media since he became HC are probably 1) spacing and 2) pace, in that order.

True though I think first and foremost that refers to changing ends - funny/sad part about that is routinely the guy that did that the best was Al in terms of being very quick to transition from D to O.

Yup. Al is a master of .5 basketball.

I also remember seeing some stats/charts a couple years ago that showed Time Lord was exceptional at doing something with the ball very quickly after getting it. Al and Rob together was really an awesome double big pairing - when healthy.
