I was exaggerating for effect. But these Poeltl evaluations seem crazy to me. Why would anyone give up Allen for him? Or Toppin? Hell Jarace Walker is more interesting to me, and we need another C more than another big wing.
I have Poeltl worth more than Toppin/Walker. The latter duo have not proven to be starter worthy while poeltl is a proven top 15 starting C
I disagree on that one. I think trade values are more about projecting guys to your team and I see a lot more value out of Obi & Jarace coming off our bench than I do Poeltl giving us protection against Mitch being hurt in the playoffs.
Even off the bench, Obi has proven he can be a difference maker in the playoffs & I’m a big Walker fan. So even for a rebuilding team I’d prefer the two Pacers.
Only scenario where I’d value Poeltl more would be if I had a team that just needed an average center to contend…someone like OKC before they brought in iHart or maybe the current Lakers.
But that’s at least debatable & I know I’m higher on some Indy players than the consensus; starting it off by flipping Poeltl for an allstar Center with the argument that Poeltl is better, otoh, is just wild.
conversely for toronto toppin and walker are worthless when we have barnes/cmb already, while poeltl is our only capable C.
In a vacuum though i have starters worth more due to supply/demand. In general there are many more bench forwards available than there are capable starting C's. LAL/Charlotte/Boston/GSW/Indiana etc all lack a starting caliber C. Just because Poeltl isnt useful to NYK doesnt make him worth less than walker/toppin to me
