Won’t be able to move in for a while even after building. I think the lease ends sometime in 2035, Jacobs definitely won’t let them out.

May take some time to find a location also.

Clippers place took almost 4 years.

The deal with Jacobs is a sweetheart deal, though. My understanding is that the Celtics pay no rent but split the in game concessions with Jacobs 50-50. They may not want to get out of that deal after they look at the cost of building and maintaining a new arena, including taxes and contributions to infrastructure.

Honestly, finding the real estate, getting the approvals/permits, drawing the plans, arranging the financing, constructing the arena & supporting infrastructure ... seems that would roughly be a ten year process from start to finish

edit: the Big Dig construction began in 1991 with a projected finish date in 1998, so with the city of Boston... you never know

I hope none of these Venture Capitalist Twits expect the state of Massachusetts to pay for their new arena. No, no, no, not even local guys like the Krafts could obtain that and they threatened to move the Patriots to Hartford.

You are on your own, Mr. Chisholm!

Has there been any suggestion of that? Seems like an obvious non-starter.

Though personally I'd be more than fine with giving up a parcel of land or two depending on the location, the potential of a well-placed arena amidst a transit-oriented development would be a boon for the city. If it's the way we get the Pike decked over at no real cost other than the air rights that's a win.

I'm not going to drive to some fancy new arena out in the suburbs, pay for parking and sit in traffic for hours like you do for a Patriots game. And I'm not going to Everett, where the Krafts are building their new soccer stadium.

At present I can take the orange line to North Station and be at the TD Garden in 20 minutes for $2.

While Wyc might have been a mountebank, he did seem to really love the Celts...

Nobody can even really pretend they know why Bill changed course here, but naturally when you spend what Bill did on the team, you'd want to run it.

The scary thing is if the Wyc thing broke down for reasons financially. Will Bill pay the tax when the team is a contender? Or will he trade Brown and White? There are so many questions we don't know, but without a doubt, the future is unsettling.

I think the Luka trade really got people on new ownership too, there's an automatic distrust of new ownership now.

To me, how worried I am depends on how long Brad stays. If Brad leaves in a year or couple of years, we should hit the full panic button and start chanting to sell the team. If he sticks, it's probably fine

I don't think we can read too much into Wyc stepping down as governor but staying on as CEO. Probably the next couple of years will be fairly replete with transitional moves as the new owners get the franchise stepping to the beat of a different drummer. When Wyc/Pags took over the ship in 2003, it took a while for those guys to get all the oars pulling in the same direction. I'm not reading too much into todays news.

If you trade Brown and White then you might as well trade Tatum too because there would be no reason to stick around. Tatum is not sitting through a 5 year rebuild during the prime of his career while Bill pinches pennies.

Well, Grousbeck wasn't a basketball guy either when his group first purchased the team. As for Chisholm, who knows? But it makes no sense to pay all that money for the Celtics and then turn them into the Pelicans or the Hornets. It's not as though a team with a huge luxury tax bill is some sort of cash cow that can be milked to death, like some other private equity investments. I'm sure Chisholm ran the numbers before he bought the team.
