This guy was my #1 target in trade/free agency for multiple years now.

He'd be great with Trae setting him up for easy buckets.

Lauri Markkanen would be a nice fit with Trae but I don't view him as a need at this point.

Can he play extended minutes because 30mpg seems to be his number.

I can't justify his contract and it doesn't appear that the rest of the league can. Other than the Jazz because he helps them meet the minimum payroll requirement.

All valid concerns.

But a year from now, if Kristaps walks away in Free Agency, I could see Atlanta getting Lauri in another salary dump to open up PT for the Utah young'ns.

Just read another prediction for this season's Hawk team.

They don't believe. Expect us to be a play-in loser.

You can find everything on the net but most have the Hawks third or fourth in the East

I ideally hope we have Trae Young signed and Dyson Daniels. With the rest of our payroll, adding Lauri Markkanen's salary doesn't seem to be a reality.

However, like you, I would be all for adding Lauri Markkanen, if he is willing to play multiple positions, or if we can eventually move him for value.

I do not know much about the process and rules or renewing contracts, etc.
But I am a little afraid of the Trae's situation.
Does this mean we are going to have more problems or a loss of confidence between both parts.
Or does just it mean that the franchise needs or wants to see the output of this new roster?

4yrs, $229m is what we can apparently offer right now.

5yrs, $350m is what we can offer if he makes an all NBA team this season.

Do you think he will be like De'Aaron Fox and sign the 4yr, $229m, if we offered it right now?

Trae has made one all NBA team (3rd team) in his career.

Four Seasons Later, The 2025-26 Hawks Might Be Better Than The 2020-21 ECF Team

Do the 2025-26 Hawks have an argument to be a better constructed team than the one that went to the 2020-21 Eastern Conference Finals?

Back when he was drafted I wanted to see the Knicks draft him to pair with KP. I still think that would be a pretty interesting prospect. Haven't thought about whether that's at all possible salary-wise.

[edit] appears not to be. I can't see how trading Trae for Lauri works bbwise and that seems like the only real possible salary trade.

Former Hawks Front Office Advisor Grant Liffman speaks with KOC about a number of things NBA and Hawks related.

He makes some interesting revelations. Nothin earth shattering...but noteworthy.

Getting an unprotected lottery pick from New Orleans to move down 10 spots in a blah draft made this offseason a huge success on its own. The Hawks also walked away with Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luke Kennard and Kristaps Porzingis at a cost of … Terance Mann, Georges Niang, Clint Capela and the 22nd pick in the draft. The Hawks still need one more big body, and extension questions loom for Porzingis and Trae Young.
