My personal biggest issue with NBA officiating is how uneven it is. You have stars doing seven step layups and than out of thin air some random role player is being called for travel for doing like half of extra step.

And ball carry and "eurostep" that is excuse to make 5 steps in nba is just on whole different level.

Whole gather step is out of hands. You have people "gathering" for 3rd time in same dribbling

Reffing in todays game was pretty damn good, Lithuanian refs are often prone to make homecooking calls, but Petraitis in particular made some good calls that went against Lithuania. Tho reffing level in Eurobasekt expected to be lower just cause high ranked European and Euroleague ref, Gytis Vilius, was head referee today, and those top level European refs that have Euroleague job, aren't reffing in FIBA tournaments.

Mamu impressed for Georgia, I though Goga was pretty pedestrian tho, if I didn't know who he was, he wouldn't have stuck in my memory. Lithuania has classic problem of not having back up playmaker, when Jokubaitis sits, game level drops. Velička tho had his moments at the end of game.

Israel will pretty convincingly beat Greece.

Another game happens tonight, that I haven't mentioned. Portugal will play Argentina.

some reddit group might trying to put it together, but I doubt it. Not like those friendlies are on one platform, each country televise their own games, so there has to be many people from all these countries who would record and upload games later. Actual tournament will have to be on FIBA's Courtside 1891 platform.

Finland - Belgium second match ended 92-74.

Box score:
https://hosted.dcd.shared.geniussports.com/FBAA/en/competition/42028/match/2695304/summary?

Belgium was *much* more physical this time, and doubled Lauri practically the whole match. Lauri still got 31 points in 23 minutes (11 from charity line), but as the rest of the Finnish team was basically playing 4 vs 3, the other Finnish players didn't look as crappy as they usually do.

EDIT: Highlights should be soon up on:

Amen! It maddening to see a guy carry the ball and then proceed to 3 gather steps + 3 steps in a very bad euro step with the ref not batting an eye.
The next action another guy makes a super clean 2 feet stops, pump fake on his pivot foot and proceed to take his second step for the layup, just to have the ref call a non existant travel on a textbook footwork.
Kind of crap that makes me want to german suplex the tv

Watching Spanish U16 game right now and they have one super short guy, Nil Poza. Official site says he is 5'8, but he has to be shorter than that, guy looks way shorter than me.

Watching U16 and I'm always mesmerized at how France is always able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, regardless of men or women, adults or youth categories. This is what, the 4th game this summer where we led for most of the game only to choke down the stretch. And Eurobasket hasn't even started!
- I'm mad, but kudos to Italy who played great. Mario Machetti has a bright future.
- France decades long tradition of having PG's that are either non-shooting non-playmaking defender (see ntilikina, Frank) or inefficient, nonplaymaking chuckers is still strong. Our starting PG with 3/11 on 3 pointers and 18% on the tournament... Killian Hayes would be proud.
- The U16 tournament has been officiated like 90's NBA and I LOVE IT. Let them play.
- Barring injuries, Soliman will be a NBA player.

He could of course be smaller than his listing. But also remember that FIBA uses the far camera angle, not the close one like NBA and NCAA.

In just about every single draft thread, we have to have these debates about the heights of players from Europe. Because so many US fans refuse to accept their height listing, because [paraphrasing] "they look small in videos".

So just about every prospect from Europe, except like Wemby, has threads with some posters saying they are 4 inches shorter than their listing in Europe. Then the NBA measures them, and they are their listed height, or are even taller than their listed heights in many cases.

I remember that Poku draft thread, where some posters kept saying he was like 6-8 in shoes, and was playing against 6-2 players in the Greek 2nd Division. Even when it was explained that some of the bigs in the Greek 2nd division are over 6-10, or even 7 feet + without shoes, some posters refused to believe it, saying they look small on videos.

When it's just because they use the far camera angle. The NBA uses that close camera angle to make the players look bigger than they really are. Just think of how point guards that are considered big in the NBA, can look so small by comparison on Team USA, depending on if the broadcast you watch is a non US broadcast.

There are point guards that look tiny in their European pro club teams, and then you see them next to a big NBA guard on Team USA, and they are the same size, or even bigger.

Lots of interesting friendlies today.
Spain vs France, probably the game of the day
Lithuania vs Latvia, always interesting baltic rivalry
Italy vs Argentina, sounds promising, not sure what team Argentina has, but they usually have A squad for Americas
Greece vs Montenegro, also exiting, Giannis wont play though
Poland vs Georgia
Sweden vs Iceland

Some drama in Slovenia after Zoran Dragic was cut. Both Zorans wife and his bro calling out the coach, Goran posted picture of Pinochio with coach's name, implying the coach is a liar.
However, Zoran is 36 and hes not been that great for years now.

Zoran has been a complete scrub and totally useless as a player for years. They were doing him a gigantic favor that they kept him around as long as they did.
